Rutgers gardens are huge park- like gardens near the center of New Brunswick. It’s a great place for a peaceful stroll or to bring the kids. I believe it’s over 50 acres large with a lake side cabin, a forest trail, meadows of flowers and all types of plants displayed in various sections of the gardens. There are many events throughout the year so be sure and check their events calendar. Entrance is free; the gardens are maintained by contributions and volunteers. I was there for the “Spring Flower Fair” that they have every Mother’s Day weekend. It’s a great opportunity to buy some plants, get some great advice from the knowledgeable staff and help a very worthy cause. Something for everyone, stop by, you’ll be glad you did.

My wife & I went there last week for a hike through the woods. It was nice but not that great, being that you could hear the traffic from the highway as we walked. Nice free outing, but I would not go out of my way to return.

This is a great place to unwind with an afternoon or evening walk. The garden presents wonderful living art when the flowers are in bloom, during the fall the changing colors are beautiful. Lots of places to take beautiful pictures and just rest. The children will even love an afternoon exploring the trails, naming trees and flowers. Sit in a chair or bench and feel your creativity bloom through writings or drawings. Enjoy!

I absolutely love this place! I went to Rutgers and would frequently come here as a place to unwind and enjoy the scenery. Since you can just stop by and peruse around for any length of time and there is no fee, it's really perfect for the middle of any day. There are a ton of awesome photo ops if you're into that, or you can just walk around the flowers, veggies, giant chairs, river... Bring your lunch, your camera, your significant other and enjoy nature!

Every time I visit Rutgers Gardens it seems they're amidst adding something new. I'm guessing it's a hidden gem because we never seem to encounter a crowd. The gardens are beautiful when they're in bloom and you could spend a nice afternoon walking along the living art and landscaping that the gardens present.

There is also some nature trails in the woods behind the gardens as well. The gardens are pet friendly.
