The State Theater is a great place to see a show. Over the years, we have seen shows with our kids such as Sesame Street Live, The Nutcracker, and various special shows for schools. Most recently, we have seen Godspell, Cyndi Lauper, and Glen Burtnik & Friends British Invasion 3. All the shows were fantastic.
The State Theater is located in downtown New Brunswick and is easy to get to by being close to major roads such as NJ 18, US 1, I 287, New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Rt. 130. Parking is plentiful with several parking decks within walking distance. There are plenty of restaurants nearby with a wide variety of cuisines. Public Transportation is also convenient using NJ Transit trains as well as several bus routes that travel into New Brunswick; all within a few blocks of the theater.
The inside of the theater is stunning. The acoustics and lighting are very good. Since it only holds 1800 people, all seats have a good view of the stage. You can buy drinks and some snacks (popcorn, etc.) in the lobby. The bathrooms are clean and accessible but there could be a line during peak times.
The State Theater is a jewel in central New Jersey. Its location is convenient by car or public transportation. There are a wide variety of shows that will appeal to everyone. Make a night of it and explore the restaurants, all within walking distance of the theater.
