Another great place to enjoy Portuguese food. We met up with friends last night and shared a wonderful meal. We started with stuffed octopus and a plate of chorizos as appetizers and of course a pitcher of San Gria. I had chicken breast in garlic sauce topped with spinach and peppers. The amount of food on everyone's plates was incredible. The other 3 people of our foursome went for surf & turf types of dinner. Lobster, shrimp, cod, steak, etc which all were very pleased with. For dessert we had flan and creme brulee with espresso.
The atmosphere was small but quaint. You can eat in the lounge side or in the regular dining room. The staff were all very friendly and very knowledgable on all of the offerings on the menu. There are quite a few Portuguese restaurants in the Ironbound section of Newark, but this one will always be the best one in my opinion. Will definitely eat here again

The best Portuguese cooking in NJ. We had dinner there last night (7/20/14) and the food (octopus in garlic sauce/paella valenciana and lamb chops) was absolutely delicious. We love ethnic cooking and Portucale serves the best in Portuguese food. The variety of dishes was so appetizing that I had a heck of a time making up my mind on what to order ( another good reason to go back there again and again. I had the house cabernet wine which was very good and, let me tell you, no one can beat their prices. And, best of all, the service was truly outstanding. It truly was a stellar dining experience. Try it and you will love it.

Sat outside but became chilly in the evening and the group was uncomfortable in eating.
The portions were large, the house soup was very good.
My only complaint of the restaurants in the Ironbound is that they include the tip in the bill and leave the space for tip empty on credit card charges. So don't tip twice.
