“Great service, great location, time for an update?”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

Stayed at this Hilton property a few times before. Excellent location when travelling to NYC on the PATH trains. Excellent service I must say and it has been the same since our first stay there. One thing, the hotel is due for an update. The property is very clean that is not the issue but some of the furniture in the room is old and the property in general feels like 1980. If style is not an issue, you won't mind this Hilton but quite frankly, I think its time for some capital improvements to bring it to 2013 style!

This hotel was reasonably priced compared to in NYC and was located right across the street from the NJ Transit station. This made it very convenient to get to/from NYC. There is also a covered bridge to walk across the street, so inclement weather isn't an issue.

So one of the best things about this hotel, is that it is directly connected to the Newark Penn Station...

You walk off the train go down to the main floor and follow the signs to the Hilton which is connected by a breezeway...

After reading all of the negative reviews of this hotel, I was really wondering what type of experience that I was going to have...

When I walked into the front desk area, I met JR (The guest service manager) he was very friendly and welcomed me to the hotel and asked if there was anything he could do to let him know...

Check-in was a breeze and I was given a room on the 9th Floor (Concierge Floor)...

Was given a sheet that described the extra amenties that I would be recieving..and proceeding to the Concierge Lounge just down the hall..

There was a mix of cold and hot items and a honor bar..the entree was a meatball with a sauteed mushroom it was actually kind enjoyable...

The hotel does have a small type restaurant (more of a bar look) and I didn't go in during my stay...

That staff in the Concierge Lounge were just as invititing and friendly and asked if there were any questions or reservations I needed made...

I was quite impressed by the service contrary to the horror reviews that I've seen about this hotel..

Maybe I got lucky or maybe because I was treating them how I wanted to be treated..it's all about how you approach them....

Hotel room door wouldn't lock. Switched to another room, towels stained, internet wouldn't work, no HHonors service (did not receive designated amenities for my level of HHonors).

Door lock issue I was told to just flip the chain thing over, it will be fine.

No menu in room. When I called down to get one, the person argued with me saying there was one in the room. When they finally brought one up, I proved to them it wasn't.

Room was really run down.

Between the staffs rudeness, condition of hotel room, etc. This hotel does not live up to Hilton standards.

Room Tip: For my business, location was perfect. However, I would not recommend this hotel due to the lack of...

This looked a good choice as I had a very late arrival at EWR and I am flying out of the same airport three days later. I gave the Hilton Newark Penn Station a try instead of a hotel in NYC and it really served its purpose the first night and the first day. The actual journey from Newark Penn St to New York WTC on the direct PATH train takes only about 20 minutes, but there is the waiting and connection etc. so you don't really want to be going back and forth. It gets a little boring on the second and third day. One should bear in mind that the PATH train can get very crowded at times. This is a dated hotel, which I can accept, but not quite up to the usual Hilton standard. I had a room on the concierge floor and one of the benefits was the lounge open for breakfast and snacks/beverages. This lounge was however not open on Friday after 10am and not al all Saturday and Sunday. I am not aware of any extras available for the concierge floor except the lounge so there is no point to pay more if your stay is at the weekend.

The interior of the room is not modern but in working order. The air-conditioner was very noisy. Internet was available at the lobby at no extra charge. There was a coffee maker but no mini-bar or fridge. There was an iron and ironing board.

I stayed at the Hilton Penn Station this past weekend, it was my base for getting into Manhattan each day, which was so easy seen as thought the hotel was connected to the Penn Station. I knew as soon as i booked the hotel i had made the right choice. I was travelling alone, the staff were fantastic, they were very warm and friendly, they made me feel welcome, they were very helpful. The quality of the hotel, facilities and staff were 5*, superb location for getting to Manhattan, I booked a Concierge King which i very much recommend as it gave me access into the Executive lounge for Hors D Oeuvres and Breakfast. The fact that there was a charge for in room internet did not bother me as if i needed it i came down to the Lobby / Bar to use the free internet. I am definitely staying at this hotel next year, it was well worth the money. I could not fault anything, i was even given a free late check out. Excellent service.

Great for travelers who would like to stay in a reasonably priced hotel with a great connection to NYC. Our only comment would be to improve the parking situation. There is a parking garage adjacent to the hotel. All parking spots on the first floor were blocked off with pylons and second floor was "valet" parking. We had to park in an outdoor area behind the parking garage and when we arrived there was only one spot left. It would have been very tricky if we arrived few minutes later and all the parking was occupied.
