My name is Bonnie, my family & i have been going to the American Inn for well over 10 years & there is no place else we would rather stay. The owners & staff at the hotel are wonderful & have become like family. We always book our room for the following summer the day we depart. The hotel is always kept clean & is always being updated too. Even if it`s just with new drapes, every year they try to change something. The American Inn is also just a step away from the beach & boardwalk. If you`re looking for a very nice place to stay in Wildwood then you should try the American Inn. You won`t be sorry.

The motel was very clean. Very convenient to entrance of the boardwalk and on a nice stretch of beach. The interior of the rooms could use an update... but still, the American Inn Motel in North Wildwood is a great place to stay if you want to be near the beach/boardwalk.

The motel was clean. Very convenient to entrance of the boardwalk and on a nice stretch of beach. The grills came in handy & were kept very clean as well. The interior of the rooms could use an update - basically it is like stepping back in time. I hadn't visited the Wildwoods since I was a teenager & basically it looked how I remembered it - a very 1970's feel. However, very clean & well kept. The refrigerator is not a full size - it is smaller, but adequate. Two electric burners, no oven & a very small microwave. Disappointed that the pool closed at 6 p.m. When we were there, it was in the 90's well into the evening & would have liked a quick dip in the pool before or after dinner - but they were pretty strict with this. Also, they want cash at check in - no credit cards; however they want a copy of your credit card number. The staff was polite, but I didn't feel they went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Basically, they are running a business & you are part of that business, not necessarily a customer. Overall, our family voted that we would stay here again.

We arrived early and had to wait to go into our room because they were replacing the air conditioner. When we went in we realized there was a thong hanging around the shower head. Then we realized the bed was wet. It was from the air conditioner that they just replaced. We were pretty upset with that being the start of our vacation. So we complained and they sent somebody right away who took the thong and then they replaced the ac. The owner was very nice and he cared so much about us as the customers he gave us free tickets to go on the silver bullet speed boat. I believe the tickets are around $80 and all five of us went for free. I would definetly stay again if the price was a little lower. Good price if you go as a group, but a little too expensive for two. Great location and friendly staff. Our cleaning lady was very nice also. I would recommend this hotel

The American Inn Motel in North Wildwood is a great place to stay if you want to be near the beach/boardwalk. It's directly at the entrance of the boardwalk at the north end. In early September, they offer great rates for Sunday-Thursday nights. Kids are back in school and the off-season is starting, so they're slow during the week. I homeschool my kids so I was able to bring my daughter and a friend withing having to take them out of school. They're old enough to venture out on their own so I was able to get some relaxing done. It's a great time to go and this was our second year doing so.

Be aware that there are some trade-offs. Many of the boardwalk and local restaurants have either already closed for the season or are only open on weekends that time of year. If you want to avoid the crazy summer crowds, though, you won't mind it at all. There's still plenty to do and the water is still warm enough to swim.

The American Inn has a pool, outdoor bbq's for guest use and many (I'm not sure about all of them) of the rooms have a small kitchen. It's a great way to save money to be able to have food in the room. We did a trip to the supermarket and got cereal, milk, yogurt, sandwich makings, etc.

Keep in mind that this is a beach hotel and not a high-rise luxury hotel. If you are aware of that and adjust your expectation accordingly, you will be very happy here. I already have our reservation for September 2012 and we're looking forward to being there again.

Room Tip: Try to be far way from the pool. People tended to hang out there (the pool is closed, but there are...

I have been staying at the American Inn every summer for almost ten years. They just recently put new carpeting and furniture in the rooms. The hotel is located on the beach and right near the beginning of the boardwalk. They have 3 grills for guests to use. The staff is great and the place is clean. Definitely my go to place for the Jersey Shore.

Just got back from a 5 day vacation at this hotel. It has the classic Wildwood hotel charm to it with a patriotic theme of red white and blue. It is a beachfront hotel, but you won't see the beach if you have a first floor room There is a nice balcony on the second and third floors with a picturesque view of the ocean. We booked our trip last minute, so didn't have a choice over room location, but if we had a choice I would definitely chose the second or third floor rooms. Our room had a street view only, with no balcony. It was a one room efficiency. The fridge is not a full size fridge, but not a mini fridge either. It had a 2 burner stove and a mini microwave (not a standard size), It also has a coffee pot in the room. The sink for the bathroom was located outside of the bathroom. The bathtub surround was cracked and pieces of caulking where coming off. There was also mildew growing there. Kinda gross really. I think they need to invest in some improvements on the bathrooms. The tub and sinks drained well and there was plenty of hot water, although we would have liked the water to get a bit hotter. Our room had wall to wall carpeting. If you walked around without shoes, the bottom of your feet would be black, so we wore flip flops. Our room was a good size. It would be nice if they continued the patriotic theme from the outside of the hotel on the inside of the rooms as well. Some interior updating (bedding, curtains, art work, changing out the carpeting for more hygienic flooring) would make this place even better. Parking at this hotel is ample and we always found a spot to park our vehicle. I will say that we returned home with some scratches on the hood of our car which we believe was caused be someone sitting something on top of it. There is no way to know if this occurred at the hotel or in one of Wildwoods parking lots. The pool is large , clean and a good temperature. We didn't like that the pool closed at 6:00 pm and that the office also closed at that time. 8 or 9pm would be a more reasonable time as many people are just leaving the beach at this time. The hotel rooms are non smoking, but you can smoke outside of your room. There were ashtrays everywhere. We are non smokers and prefer non smoking environments as well, but it wasn't a problem as they kept the trays clean and we didn't actually see to many people smoking around the pool area. Our room was the only room in the whole hotel that did not have chairs placed outside of our hotel room. We used one of our beach chairs to hang our swimsuits out to dry. The hotel is in a good location, 1 block from the end of the boardwalk. Also, the beach is a bit more narrow on this end of wildwood so you don't have as long as a walk to the water like you do in other parts. The hotel is well lit at night. Bring your own bath towels as the ones they provide are stained, rough , thin, and small. We found hairs and leftover makeup on some of ours. The beds were not comfortable at all. Extremely firm mattress and flat pillows with rough sheets and blankets. If we weren't exhausted from activities this would have bothered us more. There is free internet, however it was incredibly slow in our room. So much so that our cell phones provided better internet service. The owners prefer money order or cash to pay for the room so plan ahead for that. There is an ATM in the office to use. Also there are vending machines of candy, soda, and ice cream. There is a public bathroom available by the pool to use as well. They have a hose to spray off sand as you enter the hotel. There are several outdoor tables with umbrellas to sit at around the pool and plenty of lounge chairs. The first two days of our trip every one of these was taken with peoples towels and stuff on them. There was some kind of family/friend reunion thing going on that made the hotel very loud those first two days. They also monopolized all the chairs and seating and made it difficult to walk through the first floor hallways. It would have been nice if they were a bit more respectful/courteous of other guests in the hotel. The price was typical for in season Wildwood. Overall we agreed we would stay here again in the future.
