The tour of the lighthouse and the history behind it is very interesting. The property is beautiful and We were very happy to take the tour. We would also just bike there at night to see it all lit up and sit in the garden. Very relaxing.

Hereford Inlet Lighthouse is much more than just a piece of history. It's not a tall as most lighthouses so it can be enjoyed by many who can't take the steps up the Cape May Lighthouse. There is a minimal charge to go up (you can't go to the light though because it is working- active military members are free BTW) but it affords great views and the gardens on property are FREE, absolutely beautiful, and there is a small gift shop. It's not to be missed, lots of paths behind with beautiful perennial gardens and a path that leads up to the old sea wall. You can spend one hour here or 3, depending on what you'd like to do. even my teenager and pre-teen don't mind coming here because it is so beautiful and a short visit. I highly recommend every see this property at least once in your travels through the area, even if you don't go up.

Herefore inlet is a beautiful area, the seawall is a nice walk for the family. I like to sit on the beach there at night, the view across the the inlet to all the other shore towns lined is so pretty.

After a short video of the history of the lighthouse, you can walk up the steps almost to the top. It's a working lighthouse. So, you can't go all the way up. You do, however, get a great view of the inlet & beach! Because it is on the inlet, it is not as large as other lighthouses, so the steps are manageable! The garden is beautiful! There was such a variety of flowers some of which I'd never seen before.

The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse is one of the undiscovered oases of calm in the Wildwoods, and I make a point of visiting at least a couple of times a year -- especially for the garden, which is extraordinary. It uses a small amount of space to achieve a maximum but very low-key spectacle, using only indigenous plants and carefully staged so there's always something in bloom. I especially like the shade garden, which gives onto a small wooden path that leads to the ocean.

Highly recommended!
