“Tea Room; food, good: service, you must be kidding!”
Reviewed 12 May 2013 via mobile

We had a party for a friend in the tea room. The room is lovely, decor sweet and time evocative. They have plenty of beautiful hats for patrons to play in.
What they lack is the flexibility it takes to give customer service. The tables were set and we waited for the birthday girl. No service until she showed up- we played with hats and picked our seats. We fineally asked and could have punch while we waited. We then had to explain that an extra guest had come- we were fine with sharing food, we just needed an extra place setting.
This is when the fury began. We took one place setting so the one was not alone at a table, but the tea nazi insisted that four move from the head table. That left three at the head table? And why was there room for one at another table? And we at the little table were given left overs, no tea for us, no condiments either. Meanwhile the head table with four had two trays ( for six, originally) and everyone at " real" tables got seconds and left with to- go boxes. Oh, and there were twenty unused teapots around. Everyone, including us, were full and had alot to talk about. The food was good, really. And we did enjoy ourselves. Just don't throw a wrench in this womans plans. She can't take it. Not without taking someone down with her.

A truly wonderful experience at my 'first' B&B. Jane stayed up late for our arrival as the flight from Denver was delayed. In the morning, Dick was more than accommodating as to our breakfast desires. Even when we arrived after breakfast hours (sorry about that, just enjoyed 'sleeping in'), our hosts were more than accommodating. Our room was quite large and comfortable. The Franklin type stove with fireplace flames was quite romantic. The large, airy porch was a fabulous venue to sit and enjoy the ocean sights and sounds as well as snuggling up with a good book! So relaxing and a fabulous value!

Room Tip: I highly recommend 'The Americana'. Large, clean, and comfy!

I keep retruning to the Lillagaard because of the variety of reasons - I am not sure which one is the most important - maybe it is the welcoming atmosphere and me feeling like I am home - Dick and Jane are amazing hosts - they pay attention to all your needs and are simply wonderful people. Maybe it is because the Lillagaard is so unique that you want to come back and it seems there is never enough time and I want to stay for one more night, Maybe because each room is so charming and decorated in its own unique way. The building is the third from the beach and when you eat a delicious breakfast on the porch it seems you are right on the beach. Rooms are not big - the Lillagaard is a histroci building and it was build this way - but that is why it is so charming and the experience you get staying here is the one you will never get at any other hotels - you stay here for the charm not for the luxury amenities. I highly reccommend to stay at the Lillagard - you, like me, would like to come back.

Convenient location, only two hours by car from NY. Located directly by the sea in a residential area. A charming, historic bed and breakfast, complete with squaeking stairs and small but spotless and cosy rooms. The owners are sincerely friendly and make this a home away from home. The breakfast with a desert of fresh fruit and cake on the veranda was super - thanks Jane. I was there for business and will recommend this place to anyone - business or pleasure - staying in a 200 mile radius.

Three flights of steep stairs to go and come from the beach. Rooms to small to move around in. Bath and sink in two separate rooms, Victorian "tea parlor" in the basement, another set of steps. Im not handicapped or a senior citizen, but be warned, the pictures are barely truthful. No amenities, no attention to any guests whike I was there. Coukdnt wait to leace.

On our recent trip to US , we choose this b&b for a short stay on Jersey Shore and loved it! The location was great. Everything in town was walking distance. We loved being so close to the ocean. Every room is very unique with it's own theme and the entire decor is just amazing. The hosts are very friendly, attentive and welcoming. We enjoyed wonderful breakfast on the porch with some amazing beach views. Would love to go back for a longer stay!

Room Tip: Our rooms on the third floor had a stunning ocean view.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Lillagaard B & B for my anniversary this summer and have since been back. My husband and I were treated like royalty for our special day. The owners and staff let no small detail get by them. The rooms were clean and beautifully decorated, the breakfasts were catered to perfection and the common areas are comfortable and relaxing spaces. The owners, Dick and Jane Wehr, are very knowledgeable about the history, sites and events of this small destination spot on NJ's coast. I love the Lillagaard and all Ocean Grove has to offer! I highly recommend staying there for friends and family.
