“Never Disappoints”
Reviewed 1 January 2011

I live in Parsippany and reserved a room for my sister and her family who were visiting from the South. The hotel was very pretty, clean and quiet. The pool is small. I had made a mistake with the reservations and Mercedes, who worked the front desk, was extremely accommodating and helpful. For those not familiar with Parsippany, crime is low and it's a quiet town. Like any suburban town, you do need a car. Travel east on 46 from the hotel and you will come across some chain restaurants, as well as an Italian restaurant by the name of Eccola(sp?), about 4 miles on 46E. Travel 46W and on the way you will find a few restaurants. Casa Bella is a quaint Italian restaurant. There is another new restuarant before it but I forgot the name. You will also come across to the town of Denville. Denville is a quaint little village with plenty of eateries. Just note that most places close early and bars are closed by 2 am. As with any town, whether good or bad, common sense and a car is in order. I'm surprised to have read the poor reviews on this hotel. I've been to many Marriott hotels and they never disappoint. For the price, you can't go wrong. Marriott gets 4 thumbs up.

This hotel is a nice business traveler destination though it is located where little else happens - I guess that's what makes it quiet and safe. The staff here are professional and easy going; professional and personable - not normal here in the NJ/NYC acerbic excuse for acerbic/obnoxious customer service, or lack thereof.

You'll need a car to get around. I've stayed here a few days at different times this summer. There is bus service into NYC that runs quite often and late - the trip takes about an hour and is a cheap easy way to avoid the high cost of entering and parking in NYC. The bus stop is within a block of the hotel. I took it once and found it tolerable but not having to drive was the draw.

Inside the workout room is OK. The machines could use some updating and the pool is but a tiny square, almost a wading pool. There is a hot tub but when I was there, dozens of kids were in and out of it, so I avoided it!

The small town of Denville (small town feel too) just a couple miles away is a respite from the typical Jersey strip mall laden scene you'll find in Parsippany - east of the hotel is strip mall hell. There are a few lame diners nearby, not worth visiting and a typical TGIF next door (again, Denville offers plenty of options - Sogo is a nice Japanese restaurant and Docs kitchen offers great breakfasts though it is often crowded)

But, I give this hotel a big thumbs up for the staffing, hotel quality and nice setting.

This courtyard met expectations for the brand. Clean, comfortable, basic. The hotel has a restaurant for breakfast buffet, which had some healthy options for most diets.

My main complaint with the property is that it is located far from any decent restaurants, shopping, etc. The closest nearby is a TGI Friday's, which will deliver to the hotel for room service.

Internet service was wired, and extremely slow. If you are planning to work from your room with much bandwidth, stay elsewhere. Front desk staff was gracious and friendly (not a common thing in this part of Jersey!)

The fitness center was clean, with treadmill, bike, and elliptical. Also had a small weight bench and some dumbbells. Apparently there are several gyms nearby which offer a day pass.

This is a good property for a night, or just passing through, but if you plan to stay for a long period, consider the Marriott Hanover nearby, which has many more amenities and nearby businesses.

I had problems with the hotel I had originally booked my stay at and they had consequently locked up my entire credit card with charges! Luckily the night manager at The Marriot was very sympathetic and when I explained my situation he gave me a discounted room for the night and let me pay cash. The room was so comfortable! They put some kind of mattress pad down that I sank into. We all know that The Marriott is a great place to stay, but what really made this hotel was their incredible service.

Rooms are comfortable and recently refurbished-nice flat screened tv. If you can, get a courtyard room-it has a nice view. We really enjoyed our first stay here last month, but this one wasn't quite as good. Still, we will give it another try next month. Didn't get the type of room we requested, and as the front desk was not rude, she certainly was not apologetic or really cared. My complaints about the room we did get were: 1) The tub and shower had some mold 2) The sheets didn't seem to fit the bed and kept popping off the bed on both sides--both nights! As we don't have that trouble at home, I can only assume it had to do with the sheets :) We are going to try this hotel again next month and we'll see--

  • Liked — Nicely refurbished, Flat screen tv, Pretty courtyard
  • Disliked — Mold in shower/tub, sheets don't seem to fit bed, front desk staff could be more frendly/helpful
