We spent 2 nights at the Peacock Inn and had a very pleasant stay... From the moment we were pulled up we were greeted by a friendly, outgoing staff that took care of every request. They could not have been more accommodating! Room was modern with great amenities. The bar and Josean was fantastic, we had a great time trying the specialties drinks that he mixed! Totally recommend the Peacock Inn

I had the privilege of spending the last couple days of 2013 at the Peacock Inn. Every aspect my stay exceeded my expectations. The rooms....charming and very comfortable. The restaurant...without par in the area, most notably highlighted by the stunning menu for the New Years Eve dinner. The staff...friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and available to help you enjoy however much time you get to stay. Even the bar is in a class by itself. The bar staff can certainly serve the old standards, but take advantage of their imagination and try some of their signature drinks. All of this just a short walk from the campus and numerous other opportunities to enjoy Princeton,
If you've been staying anywhere else in Princeton, take a look at The Peacock Inn for your next visit. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: Higher floors will minimize what little bar and restaurant noise may pop up on a busy night.

Thank you for the "Spectacular" review of The Peacock Inn! We are always happy when expectations are so far exceeded. The goal of The Peacock Inn is service, and we are so happy to hear that everything was excellent.

I have shared this review with our entire staff including the front desk, bartender, servers, kitchen and management and would like to express their happiness in learning of your comments! They, like me, are also excited for the next time that you return to the Princeton area and stay with us!

This has been a local attraction for those who visit Princeton. It is a small place and advanced arrangements should be taken. It is quiet and more in the lines of a B&B. There have been some long term residents or note. Ask for a history of the place.

Room Tip: ask for the upper level on the opposite side from the bar.

Thank you for taking your time to review The Peacock Inn. We are so glad that you have enjoyed your time there, and look forward to seeing you again soon.

We are always willing to show our guests around the property and discuss its very interesting history. One of our guests favorite spots in The Peacock Inn is "Peacock Alley" which was originally a speakeasy in the 1920s, and now has a hand-painted mural of Princeton around the entire room.

My wife and I spent only a Saturday night here as an alternative to the Nassau Inn at which we find the rooms to be plain. We were hoping for a luxury, boutique inn Based on its prices and restaurant reviews. Our room was beautifully appointed and lived up to those expectations. But the bathroom had only one, small shelf that would have been tight for one person and was too small for two. The only glass was stemware by the water carafe in the the room, so we had to precariously balance a piece of stemware on the rounded lip of the sink to brush our teeth. The shower was large and elaborate but had no shelf, so we had to place our shower toiletries on the floor. The shampoo and conditioner were in dispensers mounted to the wall, a cheap alternative to individual containers.

Unlike many of the experiences discussed in other reviews, our room on the third floor was completely quiet. At breakfast, though, we spoke with a couple who said that their room was very noisy.

When we returned to the inn a little after midnight, we were startled when a rat ran through our headlights from the uncovered trash dumpster at the rear of the parking lot and disappeared under the front porch of the inn. That was a surprise!

On the whole, it has the makings -- and price -- of a luxury inn but falls short.

John, thank you for taking your time to review your stay at The Peacock Inn. I am sorry to hear that it did not live up to your expectations. The Peacock Inn is a very unique hotel, as it was originally a home from the 1700s that housed members of the Continental Congress during the Revolutionary War. It opened as an inn in 1911, and was fully renovated from 2006-2010.

I want to personally apologize for you not having enough room in the bathroom for your stuff, and I will discuss with our maintenance staff regarding if we can install any additional shelving.

Regarding your point about the shampoo, conditioner and body wash, being installed on the wall in the shower, the reason that we do that is that we can do our part in being green, to help save the environment. With the toiletries being on the wall in larger containers, we are not contributing to the landfills with all of the tiny toiletries that many other hotels use.

Lastly, your point about the animal near the dumpster, we had pest control come out to investigate, and it was a cat. We have taken many precautionary motives to not have any vermin around our property.

I hope that the next time that you are in Princeton, you give The Peacock Inn another opportunity.

The rooms are distinctive with various quirks but the beds are all plush, the Frette towels and toiletries are top quality and the restaurant is one of the finest in Princeton. The bathrooms are cramped. But there is no better option for quality hotels in the area. The location is convenient to Princeton.

I was initially thrilled. Great location, fantastic service by the valet and the manager. Our room was smaller than I expected but comfortable. The bed was quite good, and I sank into it immediately. There was a carafe of water in the room, the radio had been turned on for me, the bathroom was really nice.

But then I started to hear banging. It went on until almost midnight. Apparently room 209 is located over/near the kitchen. It's loud with the banging, which we were mostly able to muffle with the tv, but when ready to sleep, it was impossible. By that time the staff was cleaning the kitchen and they had cranked up music with a heavy bass beat. I asked the desk about it and was told it would be over shortly and they would ask them to turn it down. The music ended but the banging was still unbearable. Luckily I had some ear plugs in my travel bag.

We went elsewhere for dinner but had drinks and dessert at the bar that night. It was very expensive, but good. We expected that would be the only charge on our bill as we had pre-paid the room using Jetsetter. When we were checking out the next morning, the person at the desk did not give us a total, so we assumed it would be the drinks bill. Instead it was almost $300, which we didn't know until after she had run the card. She backed it out, telling us it would not be on the card at all, but we had a hold on our card for days after, and this was a debit card. I also find it interesting that the amount they charged us for the room by mistake was significantly less than we paid on Jetsetter, making me aware that we probably didn't even get the room we paid for. All in all, meh.

Room Tip: Don't pick room 209. If you get 209, ask to move.

Thank you for reviewing your stay at The Peacock Inn. We really appreciate you taking your time to give a honest and heartfelt review of your stay. I want to start by saying that we are happy to hear about the positive parts of your stay, and your initial reaction about the service, location and room.

We sincerely apologize about the shortcomings that we had, the banging and music in the kitchen and being charged the additional amount in the morning. Jetsetter is an incredible website, and offers amazing deals at pretty extraordinary properties around the world, I am so glad that you chose us! After reading your review, and other similar comments, we are looking into soundproofing the ceiling above the kitchen, so that the next time someone stays in that room they will not be bothered.

The extra charge on your room was a major oversight, and we are very sorry about that. That normally takes 8-10 days to come off of your debit card. If you would like us to speak with your bank, please give us a call, and we will help you with that.

I hope that in the future, you choose The Peacock Inn and choose to enjoy a meal at the restaurant, we promise to exceed your expectations!

We had an extended family birthday to celebrate and wanted someplace a bit special. Princeton doesn't have many options so we decided to give the Peacock Inn a try. Disappointing and mediocre. The brunch appetizers were good (in fact vg gravlax) but the brunch entrees were either uninventive or in the case of the gnocchi (which were tasty) but were a very small portion. The average man would've walked away from the gnocchi quite hungry. Rather bland potatoes accompanied the frittata. Most of our table had the gravlax appy which was served without bread or crackers. When one in our party asked for bread/crackers a plate of lemon poppy muffins cut into small pieces was presented. The muffins were good but not as the carb to accompany gravlax!

The ambiance is quite lovely and very serene. Love the peacock painted on the dove grey walls The day we were there it was rather empty. Yet they could not manage to serve our entrees together. There was quite a lag and we were eight diners.

I wish I could say that the Peacock Inn had the fabulous meals of 20 years ago and I imbibed in many. Its hard to fathom that a town like Princeton has so few quality dining establishments. I want to like and recommend the Peacock Inn but I just cannot.

Thank you for taking the time to review the restaurant at our Inn. While we’ve received innumerable wonderful comments and reviews on our fare, service, and décor, hearing from someone who was disappointed is equally as important to us.

I’m unsure why you were served poppy muffin slices with gravlax. Simply put, that was not right. Also, I apologize that your entrees came out at differing times. Our kitchen usually is quite good about timing, but it sounds like we missed the mark during your visit.

I’m pleased that – many years after your first dining experience at The Peacock Inn long ago – you decided to try our restaurant again. Our style of service, cuisine, and featured items have changed much as time and Princeton change – many feel for the better, but I understand and appreciate your insights. One thing remains the same, however, and that is our dedication to offering consistent excellence throughout. I’m sorry we deviated from that during your visit, and assure you that you will be thoroughly pleased should you try us again – hopefully sooner than later.

At the Peacock Inn, old guests keep us going but new guests keep us growing. Please come again!
