We found ourselves in the middle of Ridgewood and hungry for an early dinner. Chestnut Street offers quite a few options, though not all are open on a Monday. We definitely should have consulted Trip Advisor before choosing, but thought a bar and grill couldn't fail to have something for everyone. . .
Great bar/pub style atmosphere and friendly wait staff cannot be faulted, but our food was rather disappointing. The six year old got excited by "Kraft Mac & Cheese" only to balk when it came out with other NOT Kraft cheeses all over. We replaced it with an unadulterated dish of the kiddie comfort food, but the damage was done and she just picked.
The jalapeno poppers are just how you would expect but nothing special. The artichoke and spinach dip was bitter, gelatinous and meager with an overabundance of chips. The special entree of crab cake over spinach was served with one jumbo crab cake because they were out of whatever the usual size was. We found it to be tasty, but also disproportionate between the single cake over a big pile of barely dressed spinach with possibly a few bits of bleu cheese. There were a few slices of cold caramelized onion hidden underneath, and a few thin slices of raw red onion on top like someone couldn't make up their mind.
Honestly, this was one of the very few restaurants that I can't think of a single reason to ever visit again. Considering its great location in a town of affluent folks who like to dine out, this kind of underwhelming is inexcusable.
