“Underwhelming in its mediocrity...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014 via mobile

We found ourselves in the middle of Ridgewood and hungry for an early dinner. Chestnut Street offers quite a few options, though not all are open on a Monday. We definitely should have consulted Trip Advisor before choosing, but thought a bar and grill couldn't fail to have something for everyone. . .

Great bar/pub style atmosphere and friendly wait staff cannot be faulted, but our food was rather disappointing. The six year old got excited by "Kraft Mac & Cheese" only to balk when it came out with other NOT Kraft cheeses all over. We replaced it with an unadulterated dish of the kiddie comfort food, but the damage was done and she just picked.

The jalapeno poppers are just how you would expect but nothing special. The artichoke and spinach dip was bitter, gelatinous and meager with an overabundance of chips. The special entree of crab cake over spinach was served with one jumbo crab cake because they were out of whatever the usual size was. We found it to be tasty, but also disproportionate between the single cake over a big pile of barely dressed spinach with possibly a few bits of bleu cheese. There were a few slices of cold caramelized onion hidden underneath, and a few thin slices of raw red onion on top like someone couldn't make up their mind.

Honestly, this was one of the very few restaurants that I can't think of a single reason to ever visit again. Considering its great location in a town of affluent folks who like to dine out, this kind of underwhelming is inexcusable.

“Great bar scene”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 March 2014

The bar scene is always fun at the Office-friendly welcoming people and great staff...my favorites are the ribs and chicken quesadillas.

“If you are visiting from out of state bring secondary ID and Passport.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2013

Management denied my ID and would not accept my credit card and student ID as secondary ID. I was forced to leave the restaurant and was incredibly embarrassed. I'm 24 and live in Atlanta, GA but grew up in Bergen County. I come home twice a year and always go to The Office with friends for drinks. Tonight I was pretty turned off by the establishment and unfortunately will not be coming back any time soon.

“good food & drinks plus friendly service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

We had four different dishes and all four of us were satisfied. The offer a varity of good beers and wines. Outside seating is available (nice in the evening). Service was quick and friendly.
Summa summarum: a pleasant experience, well worth the money.

“Great atmosphere, acceptable service and food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2013

There were three in our party. From the menu we chose a salad dish a soup/sandwich combo and a burger. Beer and wine. The selecitons were various and the wine was a great selection, better than you'd expect at a bar. The server could have been a bit more attentive but she seemed to be newer and I'm sure she'll get better.
