“Good for what we were looking for......”
Reviewed 6 March 2011

We chose this hotel as a base for sightseeing in New York without incurring the cost of Manhattan hotels. Parking at the hotel was free and everything seemed quite safe.
We thought the reception staff on the day of our arrival to be a little indifferent and not particularly forthcoming with advice. Quite a contrast to the people on our departure who recommended some final sightseeing at the waterfront at Hoboken.
Our room was large and had everything we wanted. It was clean, well-looked after and the beds were comfortable if a trifle firm. Breakfast provided a good selection of cooked and cold dishes eg eggs, bacon, potatoes, cereals, cakes, juices etc which was excellent given the hotel rate (our room was $99 but we paid $89 with AAA membership).

The transporation service to the local Secaucas railway station worked well although it did stop at 10pm (in which case you needed to take a taxi back to the hotel). The hotel was pretty strict about only coming out to collect you upon assurance that you were actually at Secaucas but this did not cause us any hardship. The return journey from Secaucas cost $8 and the trains were frequent and quite quick 10-15 mins for the journey.

We would recommend the hotel but you may wish to consider the price advantage against the total time journeying between Secaucas and Manhattan. This could amount to as much as an hour each way and for this reason, it was not feasible to return to the hotel after sightseeing to say go out to the theatre later. But if you are on a tight budget and either have no time pressure or don't mind being "on the go" all day followed by night time entertainment, this will be the place for you.

We spent the weekend in NYC and did not want to spend a fortune on lodging. This place was ideal, close by, well equipped, comfortable. We were lucky, since the roads were essentially empty, i.e. it took us 15 min tops to get out of Manhattan on a Saturday night and 10 min to get into Manhattan on a Sunday morning. (this might be quite different if you get stuck in traffic).
The rooms (comfort cleanliness) were as expected for a 4-star hotel. The only negative experience: The wireless Internet connection, which worked fine in the lobby, did not work in our room and the staff could not (or did not bother to) reset the router, in spite of me asking them repeatedly

Fantastic rate, $89 for a five night stay, 20 minutes from Newark Liberty, 10 minutes to Manhattan. Unbelievable rate, did I mention that? Other hotels in the same area were asking close to $300 per night!

Okay, it's not The Ritz Carlton, but it's clean and safe. I'm a bit of a clean freak so I was apprehensive before arrival and was prepared to move to another hotel if it wasn't acceptable and I had no issues. The pictures on the website are an accurate representation. The only criticism I have is my bed was too firm, I like a soft squishy mattress, and I got the plywood model. But the free wireless internet was a nice bonus.

Breakfast was even included in that rate and it was pretty good. Full hot breakfast, eggs bacon sausage pancakes plus cereals and fruit and pastries and toast and juice and coffee and on and on.

The hotel restaurant, La Reggia, is old school, authentic New Jersey Italian with a good menu and really really good food. The best Caprese I've ever had, and that's one of my favorites. The servers were very friendly and the prices reasonable. I ate every meal there during my stay, no need to go anywhere else.

Then the lounge. Warm and inviting, the place fills up every night of the week with locals. What a blast! I felt like I was an extra in a taping of a Sopranos episode. I mean no disrespect at all, on the contrary, these people were so great to be around. Fun, friendly and easy to talk with. Weekends they have live entertainment and when we were there we had someone singing all the old Sinatra and Tony Bennett songs. Very talented and he had all the locals up dancing and singing all night. But the bartenders are what makes it. We had the pleasure of being served by Monica and Daisy. Absolute gems.

Overall I couldn't have asked for a better experience for my stay. Next time I'll come back for pleasure and visit the sights.

From the minute we arrived the staff at Reception went out of their way to help us. Rooms perfect and so clean. Breakfast excellent. Shuttle bus drivers very helpful and friendly. Got used to the traffic noise. Will definitely go back to the Meadlowlands.

First impression was bit dowdy, foyer nothing special bit dark though staff were pleasant enough. Room was good size and clean enough but again overall impression was dark.
Breakfast was ok but staff were not pleasant at all so after we were seated was glad it was self service. There were not many eating places close by but the bonus was free parking ad shuttle bus took us to bus stop and picked us back up again our problem was coming from Scotland was expensive to use our mobile phones and we did ask at shops close to where we were dropped off if there was phone box or did they know how we could phone hotel but no phone boxes and no offer to phone for us even though it was freephone.
It was still cheaper to stay outside NY and travel in by bus good journey.

We were looking for a less expensive option than hotels in New York or Hoboken (there are
only two choice in Hoboken, both in excess of $220/night). We were visiting relatives and didn't require a place to hang out in--just needed a place to sleep. This hotel feels a bit "old" but we had no problems here and slept well all 4 nights. My husband tells me that the breakfast was fine--better than most. The commute to Hoboken was generally less than 15 minutes--but traffic into Hoboken and NYC could be a problem depending on time of day.

Nothing bad to say about this hotel. We used the bus system to Times square which was about ten minutes with a free shuttle to it in the morning. At night we were too late returning for the shuttle but got a taxi right at the bus stop for $6.00 plus tip! And they were some of the the friendlliest taxi drivers I ever came across. Hotel staff very nice and rooms nice also.
