“Other options!”

Although only a few blocks from the beach, the hotel is gloomy, dark and lacking life... The room was descent, however it could have felt cleaner. There are a number of other options in the area, and I would suggest one that is more alive with better "home cooked" food.

I recommend eating at the Grand Victorian which is a BYOB! The flounder is amazing, tuna was a bit dry.

Good luck!

Dear Jason,

I am so sorry to hear that you were so unimpressed with The Normandy!!! I am not sure if you tried to bring your concerns to our attention while you were here but I do make every effort to directly address issues that guests may have. While one must have an appreciation for Victorian antiques and architecture, I must say in our defense that The Normandy is on the National Register of Historic Places and has won numerous awards for the amount of authentic period antiques in one location. Despite this, I do understand that we are "not for everyone". As far as comparing us to a fine dining restaurant, that too, is a bit difficult to hear as we do not proclaim to be that. We are a Victorian Inn serving a country breakfast and homemade treats for afternoon tea. We do, after all, appreciate your comments as they will only help us in knowing what is on the minds of our guests. We do wish you all of the best in finding the property that best suits your personal taste!
Best wishes, Christine Valori, The Normandy Inn

If you want a nice, charming old B&B to stay in on the Jersey Shore, this tall dark-colored, multi-gabeled Victorian looking home has a terrific location on lovely street close to the beach in beautiful Spring Lake. The exterior's charm and convenience fall a bit short when staying inside, however, and this is where your question becomes: How old is too old--for the house and/or you the guest? I'm a fit 58 year old woman who found it difficult to lug my bags up and around the dark, irregular stairs in a hallway so poorly lit that I had a hard time getting my key in the door. My room was charming, (but again very dark) came with an old tv and old air conditioner that were, well, not so charming, but worked (sort of). The bathroom had modern plumbing but the cabinet bottom had stains (that could have easily been painted) and a torn curtain on the outside window. Lovely breakfast served by cheerful staff.

The staff is smart and there, as needed, to provide advice on local attractions oe dining.

Dear Melanie,

I am so very sorry that your stay with us last summer did not meet your expectations. I am wishing that you had brought this to my attention and I would have spoken with you directly to see if there was something that we could do. Please do not, even now, hesitate to contact me at the inn, 732-449-7172. We do take pride in our home and try very hard to be what all guests would like us to be and would love the opportunity to make this up to you! We wish you the very best in 2012!

We booked this hotel the day before we arrived for our 10 year wedding anniversary, luckily we got a room. ( We were suppose to go somewhere but due to the economy this was the furthest we can go.) Anyway we arrived early and we were given our room early. The front desk attendant, Christine was friendly and extremely helpful recommending restaurants and etc. We actually ended up eating where she suggested. It is an antique B&B, the room was clean, the bathroom small but clean with towels and toiletries. The walk to the beach is 1 minute walk, if at that. The Normandy gives your badges for the beach, chairs and umbrellas. That was wonderful not having to bring your own chairs from home or buy any. They also have bikes to use for free. That was the best, I haven't rode on a bike for over 20 years. We rode around town, had lunch and ice cream. The parking lot for the B&B is extremely small and tight and if you get there late at night you won't find any parking, so you have to park a block away, but its really no big deal. The area surrounding the B&B is beautiful and safe. Breakfast is included and it was awesome. I loved the chocolate chip pancakes, it was a big portion that i was unable to finish. I would definitely come back again. Also this is an adult place so leave the kids at home.

Lovely romantic get away in a historic inn. Ammenities include free beach pass, umbrella, towels, bikes. Even if it rains, the porch is worth the trip. One block from the beach. Staff is warm and welcoming.

Our stay at the Normandy was great! The staff was so accomadating. My wife had surgery recently and isn't able to walk up stairs easily, so Sue and Janice switched our room to be on the ground floor. The fresh full breakfast was delicious and afternoon tea and cookies while sitting on the porch was very relaxing. It is very nice that they supply beach chairs, passes, towels and bikes. It's a short walk to the beach. We would definitely recommend the Normandy Inn to anyone looking for some R&R.

Stayed only one night while visiting family for a graduation celebration. The Inn is charming and well maintained. Furnished with antiques, it gives the visitor a sense of stepping into the past, without sacrificing comfort. Staff was very accommodating, and breakfast was delightful. The area is lovely, and the Inn is just a block from the beach. Our room, # 103 was a little small, but there are larger rooms available. Parking was also tricky, but not impossible. We stayed at reduced rate as part of a "Spring Special". Otherwise, it would have been too expensive for our pocketbook. If you can afford it, and if you are in the mood to try something different, give it a try.

Room Tip: Every room has a private bath, but some are very l

Service was excellent, upon arrival we were escorted by the Innkeeper to ensure we liked our room which we loved. It was everything expected as described on the website as well as spoken of by the superb staff. The room was so bright and cheery (room 109) with a fireplace to keep us warm during the chilly nights. It was a step into the 1800's with high ceilings, colorful wallpaper matching the era, as well as no phone and perfectly appointed furniture all matching and depicting the times. Yes there is running water and electricity with an A/C for the hotter months, lol.

Breakfast with the afternoon tea was plentiful, all included with your room. Breakfast was a sit down, no buffet at this house. Food was served with excellence and a smile. Soft background classical music plays throughout the day, in the dining rooms as well as the various sitting rooms.

Location is excellent - 1/2 block to the ocean and boardwalk.

Liked best - peace and quiet; extremely clean - like being home.

Liked least - parking can be tough and tight, however you can't love every thing.

Room Tip: Look online, select top 3 or 4, call innkeeper.
