My girlfriend and I had driven to Spring Lake for the day. We were there w/ 7 kids b/w us. On a whim we decided to stay overnight. She had stayed b/f and said it was great for the price. We called, the owner remembered her and was so nice. We stayed in the 2 bed 3 bath room. While this is not a luxury b&b it was just right for $200. It has a kitchen and a tv room. Only problem was the air conditioning was not great. Heat wave in NJ and only 2 units that were not really doing the job. As soon as we said something they immediately brought in another unit and all was fine. I believe this is under new ownership from 2007 so many of the problems may be fixed now.

I probably wouldn't stay here if it was for longer than 2/3 days. It's not a long term vacation, but a great weekend getaway.

Do not waste your time booking a reservation at the Walden as the owner
obviously does not waste her time trying to fix it. There were water spots all
over the place, indicating more than one leak. The stairs felt like they were
about ready to give way. The paint in the room was all cracked and peeling. The
bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in years, and the door was partly
blocked by furniture. We did not stay at this hotel. We spent five minutes in
the room and left. We were lucky in that we showed up early enough to be able
to inspect the room before check-in, and did not have to pay as we did not sign
the agreement.

We have been renovating are 1883 Historical Victorian Since it was purchased.

Are staircase is solid Mahogany and can handel the weight of an Elephant.

We also have a new roof that cost approx $20,000. So I would like to know were these
mysterious spots are.

We paint every season as well.
We clean daily and serveral times a day and have maids live-in so it is impossible that a bath would be dirty or look like it was not clean.

Yes, we do have 2 smaller rooms-and that information is told to guests when the reservatin is made. The price is also less-and some people prefer this- because the spend most of there time at the beach or reading on are porch.

All of are rooms have new carpet and furniture - some are antique's
The Manager and Owner care very much about the Inn. Pictures of this room are available upon request.

Where do I start. The walden states: "Circa 1883" well let me tell you it has not been renovated since. It's falling apart, the furniture is old and in squeaky condition. Minimal staff but friendly. What was suppose to be a 4 day special-we left after 3 days and where charged for the 4th. And it is not a cheaply priced place-we paid almost $700 dollars for 3 days. Unless you are a beach lover do not stay in this small town, and by the way you need to pay to enter the beach. They advertise canoes and bikes-well they no longer have it. And the lovely pond they advertise is contaminated and has so many geese-no human should swim in it. The town is beautiful but there is absolutely nothing to do-not even a museum or enough shops to spend the day. The rooms where so small the entrance door hit the bed and the bathroom door could not be opened completely to let you enter. Unfortunately I learned about travel advisor after the trip but everything I read is true. Breakfast-horrible, towels-tiny, rooms-tiny, no restaurants near or walking distance-must use car. They are upfront about charges because they know once you arrive you want to leave-which was our case. I have stayed at other B&B and had a wonderful experience but this one was truly bad!!!!!

The people we dealt with were very nice.

The building itself is old -- I think it says "ca 1883" or thereabouts. It has a terrific front porch. The rooms are smallish and the furniture is old but comfortable. They could use more lamps and the bath towels are too small and too thin.

The room and the common areas were clean.

Breakfast is continental. Muffins, bagels, toast, fruit, some cereal. It was OK but certainly nothing special.

While it's not exactly close to the beach, it is within walking distance and it's a few dozen yards from the pond, and the room did come with beach passes.

All in all, I had no prob with it but it's pretty expensive.

Just returned from beautiful Spring Lake, NJ and a less than stellar two-day stay at Walden on the Pond. Upon arrival, one can tell this is not a B&B that is well cared for... weeds peek through the sidewalk and out of the garden beds, the paint on the front steps is peeling, the wicker furniture & stained cushions are ready for the dump.

Unfortunately, once you book your stay, you're stuck with it... The B&B's web-site speaks of rooms that are "individually decorated with custom wallpaper and antique furnishings". The correct description should be "rooms in serious need of updating, wall paper stained and peeling, paint on door / window moldings dirty and peeling and repainted curb-side pick up furniture." The thin towels (can I have another please) and the "gee, I wonder if these sheets have been changed before I checked in" are an added bonus.

I tell 'em like I see 'em and at $280 a night, this place is utter highway robbery for what was provided.

Don't count on a gourmet B&B breakfast making up for the shortfall in the accommodations.... this place doesn't prepare a breakfast - instead, they provide a few bagels, a few types of muffins, a meager fruit salad and the option of having corn flakes (don't forget coffee and OJ). Nope folks, the muffins provided aren't fresh baked at the B&B but rather brought in from a sub-par bagelry / bakery. My advice to you is If you want a good selection of bagels or muffins, you best arrive early as they're gone by 9:30am and then you're stuck with corn flakes.

Before you consider checking into any B&B in Spring Lake, DON'T do it sight unseen. Take a look around ahead of time (if you don't have the time), use a site such as tripadvisor before booking... Prices are high in the area and ensure you don't have the same sinking feeling we had after paying $640 (tax included) for two nights in sub-par accomodations.

The pictures that were posted were not how the room looks at all. It has been fully updated . and the same guests return every year.

In addition we are a hotel not a B&B and breakfest is served as a courtsy and not included in the rate.

I will display the correct photo's -

I must be advised how to do so- we work very hard to keep a low rate and a family freindly place.

It is 1883 Inn and will never be a Hilton Hotel - however some people perfer this.

This B/B located in the Wreck Pond area of Spring lake has seen better days. Located on a quiet street with other B/Bs it may once have had the attention it now clearly lacks. The breakfast was meager, the linens and towels thin, and there was a lack of freshness about the place. Even the sign on the front was faded and peeling.
