“Great hotel that fits the bill”
Reviewed 29 July 2011

This is a great hotel - I booked through Expedia and despite a clerical or computer error of some sort (the hotel had no record of my reservation), the front desk was very helpful and corrected it quickly. Staff were all very nice and professional.

Hotel is clean, quiet and a good value. When we arrived they had a complimentary barbeque dinner, with burgers, hot dogs, beer, etc. The breakfasts at Residence Inn are always good as well.

There is a small game area (pool table, foosball) next to the dining room which my kids enjoyed and the pool is great too.

Free wi-fi, free food (and beer), free newspapers, and a neat little game area in the lobby. Rooms are always clean, ans staff very friendly. AAA rates also very reasonable.

Stayed here after checking out summer camps and not wanting to drive all the way back to NYC.

First time staying at a Residence Inn and I was impressed. Perfect, perfect, perfect hotel for families, with a suite arrangement. Breakfast area has a pooltable, pingpong and a foosball for kids which was great.

Indoor pool and hottub were perfect after a long day on the road.

Only minor drawback is that the hotel didn't have a bar or restaurant (breakfast was served however) and local dining options appeared to be a drive away. In fact if you wanted to have an evening cocktail, the only option was the Holiday Inn across the parking lot.

Not a hotel I'd ever pick as a "destination" but if business or a road trip has you staying here, you won't be disappointed.

Stayed here for a friends wedding. I reserved a 2 bedroom-room. The entire place was spotless. The staff was extremely helpful. Location is great- and easy to find.
The breakfast was included which was a plus.

We would def stay here again.

Stayed here for my job, and I must say I was impressed! The staff was excellent and the person whom cleaned my room was awsome! I was there 4 nights and I felt just like at home. The hotel is right off the expressway, easy to find. The breakfast was free and nice. The staff was helpful to get you to surrounding places. Printed you out maps and directions. My job books this hotel for all of its employees, so they told me where the nice places to eat were. Would def stay here again.

Stayed in the Residence Inn while attending our Son's wedding in Stanhope NJ. Rooms were functional, well equiped and clean. Staff were helpful when needed. I would rate comparable to a 3* business hotel in the UK. Fitness centre was average, pool good. Free internet access. No restuarant although you can get snacks at the adjoining Holiday Inn - no food facilities nearby either.
Not really much more I can say other than the taxi service in the Mt. Olive/Stanhope/Dover area is terrible (although nothing to do with the Hotel). Plenty of parking if you go by car.

We've stayed here twice now: On both occasions, my husband was here as a volunteer coordinator for the nearby JORBA mountain biking festival. The Residence Inn provided exactly what we needed. There was plenty of room for our personal belongings and biking equipment, with plenty of room left to walk around and spread out. On the first morning, we woke up after a restful night in a very comfortable bed. We were up far too early to have breakfast in the lobby, but the fridge, stove and toaster in the room solved that problem. They were all clean and in perfect working order, which is important at 4am. When we returned later, after having spent the entire long day working in the heat (not to mention mud, courtesy of a rainstorm the day before), it was great to return to a freshly-cleaned room, a hot shower and the comfortable beds. And we passed on the gym, but the hot tub was wonderful. The next morning, we did have breakfast in the lobby during the "wrap-up" meeting with other members. The food was good and plentiful, and the kitchen crew was on hand for anything you might need. The hot food was hot, and the cold food was cold. Everything was fresh and clean.
Last year when we stayed, there was a wedding party staying here also, so there was naturally some noise of partying guests coming and going, but once they were in their rooms, it was quiet. This time, we only heard the occasional few people talking in the hallway as they passed by. Most guests we've encountered are quiet and considerate, especially late at night. We always ask to stay on a top floor, so we do not have anyone with "heavy feet" above us.
A midnight snack craving was satisfied at the lobby shop next to the front desk. On the plus side, I was able to grab an armful of munchies and just say "charge it to my room"; on the downside, I was on the top floor and needed to get "decently" dressed to go downstairs. A vending machine on my floor, as well as an ice machine, would have been more convenient, but it certainly wasn't the end of the world.
Speaking of the top floor: if you are in a hurry to get downstairs, take the stairs. The elevator moves at the speed of bureaucracy.
We live on the Jersey Shore, so the surrounding wooded mountainsides offered a nice change of pace. We heard little or no sounds of traffic as we were on the far side of the building, so it made sleeping especially easy.
The air conditioner, TV, kitchen appliances, internet & phone service and all fixtures and plumbing worked without any problems. The ONLY change I would make in the layout of the room is to have a curtain or sliding door between the bed area and the dressing/bathroom area, as the light over the sink shines directly into the eyes of someone trying to sleep. But it's not a huge problem, and it certainly would not prevent me from returning.
Outside, the grounds were nicely landscaped and maintained. There was plenty of parking and the lots were well-lit. All of the doors except the main entrance remained locked at all times, allowing access only if you had a guest key. There are safety cameras on all floors and in the elevator. Of course you need to take reasonable personal precautions, but even when I walked around at night, I never felt unsafe.
The only time we had any dealings with the people at the front desk was during check-in and check-out, at which times they were friendly and efficient. Otherwise, we only saw them as we were passing by, but even then, they smiled and wished us a good day.
Without any doubt, we would recommend the Residence Inn to our friends and family, and look forward to returning again ourselves.
