The hotel is nice. We stayed here for our honeymoon. We got a good rate for it, especially for a four-star hotel, there rates are reasonable. We had a king size bedroom, the room was nice. The shuttle bus service was great, giving us tips and a ride for shopping at Newark. The hotel service was great as well. Food was great too.

Upon checking in at the Grand Summit, you see that it is an old historical hotel and that is quaint. The person checking us in (to two rooms) was non-plussed and gave us 2 rooms on the 3rd Floor. Upon checking the first room, we opened the door to the odor of smoke. We then checked the door and it didn't have a "no smoking" sign on the door like the other room did and smelled quite fresher. We realized that we needed to go down and request another non-smoking room. Upon checking into the new room, we noted that is was quite larger and the bathroom seemed newer and updated. When checking in, it would be worthwhile to ask for the larger room(s) and updated baths.

The bathrooms are NOT large. Bring your own bath/body products. The ones provided are just okay, you will probably want your own. There was a blow dryer attached to the wall. The water pressure was very nice too.

The MOST noteworthy comment thought is the lack of quality bedding. The mattress is so HARD, that we thought we were sleeping on the boxspring! We actually checked to see if it was. It was the Hardest Most Uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. I am still sore today and we stayed approximately 2 days ago. If you like to sleep on the floor, you will love the mattress! Also, the bedding consists of one of those "shiny" polyesterish top throws.....I missed my sheets and my own comforter tremendously.

The brunch the next day (we were there for a party the next day), was wonderful. It is in the Hunt Club/Grill and there is an assortment of bagels, pastries, steamship round, shrimp, other seafood delicacies, lox, whitefish, assorted salads, and also a menu from which you can order ala carte.

There were also mimosas and a piano player who was so nice!

So....bottom line... go for the Brunch, not the Bed.

When I had checked into my room at the Grand Summit, I opened the door to the room to find the security guard in my room, on the bed, asleep and with the television on. Upon complaining to the front desk, I was assured that it was alright because he was "part of the staff"!!
I was RELUCTANTLY assigned another room after a heated argument with the front desk clerk who seemed to think I was unreasonable to request another room.
At 7:00 AM the next morning, another front desk clerk called me to tell me to vacate that room because the room was needed for another guest!
I decided that I'd had enough, checked out of the hotel two days early, and drove as far and fast as I could!

Tradition at its best... Recommended to the couples who appreciate the finer things in life and are not afraid to pay for it. Atmosphere of Short Hills, Chatham, and Madison Twps, yet feeling of Wlliamsburg Virginia. You will not regret this getaway...
