Nice park area, car parking can be tough. Elevator to the top in season. Be aware that this is in the inner city of Trenton. Only those with confidence in urban areas should go alone.

I have worked downtown Trenton since 1979 and it is unfortunate that you cannot admire the area even back then, you would be robbed at the least and killed at the worst.

I visited during daylight hours and the park was almost entirely deserted. It is not in terrible condition, but not fantastic either. The monument itself was closed off. Sadly, unless you are interested in the Revolutionary War, I'm not sure there's much to recommend going out of your way to visit this. For me it was nice to stand near where the main American artillery battery was located, and feel a connection to the past. However I found that the surrounding area has changed so much that being there could only bring history to life to a small extent. It would be nice to see this part of town revitalized and the park made into something that could stimulate interest, rather than only attract the interested.

Look at this in a history book. This area of Trenton is highly unsafe, there is no place to run, and your safety is at serious risk. I work in the city and this area is a few blocks from my place of employment.

Trenton is a very unsafe place. There are weeds growing through the concrete everywhere around the monument. The monument was closed and the elevator broken down. It is a shame, since one of the most important events in our history happened here. I was sure no one in Trenton new history of the place and obviously didn't care. They were more interested too see what I had that they wanted.
I did go to the Old Barracks, and that was decent. They had a politically correct spin on things and weren't very knowledgable about the events that happened there.
However, please do go to the Delaware river crossing ( about 9 miles away, and to the Princeton battlefield and University. The Park ranger at the Clarke house in Princeton knows everything!!! Very refreshing!! Princeton University is beautiful and full of history. I do advise reading one of the wonderful books on the subject before you go, so that you truly understand what you are seeing. Have a safe trip!!
