Recently to Minerals for a weekend ski trip and had a fantastic time. The shuttle to and from the base of the mountain was so convenient but the best part of the weekend bar none was relaxing in the outdoor heated pools after a long day on the slopes - especially cool when it started snowing! Can't wait for a return trip next month!

We stay at this hotel about twice each year as it is very close to our grandchildren, and have stayed here for the last 5 years. The hotel focuses on local (NY, NJ) clients as they come here for nearby skiing, golf and the resort facilities. We have a different purpose for coming here. The hotel is in need some renovations in the rooms as they are a bit out-dated, but yet quite comfortable. The business center is very much out-dated, and is in need of serious replacement. The computer is probably 5+ years old, still having a 3-1/2 in floppy drive. There are no USB plug in ports and does not seem to have Adobe. Therefore, it is difficult to use those facilities. The service and cleanliness of the hotel is fine. Again, however, there are some areas that need some renovations, e.g., carpeting. We will continue to stay here because of location, and there is not much else in the area. I would recommend staying at the hotel, and we hope the hotel management takes notice of these comments.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for your review and your loyalty with us.

We have forwarded the computer info to our IT dept.

Just want to mention that we have been renovating, we just did Kites, the banquet space, the banquet pre-function area and we built a beautiful wedding garden for our lovely brides, and we're working our way into the guest rooms.

Best,

As a birthday present for my 14-year old daughter, I took her and 4 of her friends to Minerals Resort and Spa for the weekend, using one of our timeshare weeks. Our accommodations were for a 3 Bedroom / 2 Bath townhouse in the Great Gorge section. Our specific unit was Squaw Valley Building 3, Unit 7. As stated in another review, these units are the oldest in the plan, but nonetheless very accommodating for a weekend getaway.

When we arrived at the resort, two customer service clerks were assisting at the registration desk. Although we were only 3rd in line to check-in, the process took longer than necessary - about 20 minutes - due to the delay from the group in front of us “negotiating” what they wanted the security deposit to be for the 5 rooms they booked. They seemed clueless that it’s standard policy – for the protection of the resort – to charge a refundable damage deposit. Regardless, once it was our turn to check-in, we had our keys within 5 minutes and were on our way to the townhouse.

By now, it was about 6:00 at night and quite dark for this time of year. Nonetheless, we found the building easily, however, since the desk clerk told us our specific unit was on the lower level, in an attempt to find our unit, we spent about 10 minutes quietly trying the locks on what appeared to be unoccupied lower level units. The lower level units are isolated by the decks of the upper level units, so this complicated our efforts - as did searching in pitch darkness, with no outside unit lights and no visible unit numbers.

However, as luck would have it, a Building #3 resident came out to walk her dog. I didn’t want our group of 6 to startle her so I quickly mentioned we were having trouble finding our unit. She immediately asked if we were looking for Unit 7 (I guess that must be the only rental in the building.). She directed us UP THE STAIRS and around the corner to UPPER unit #7. Thank goodness for small favors because I’m not sure how long we would have been searching for lower level unit #7. Who would have thought that the desk clerk DIDN’T know her job?

So, with the directions of the kind stranger, we found the correct unit (no outside lights and no visible unit number) and found the keyhole using the light from a cell phone. (In the daylight the next morning we discovered that there actually were numbers on the units; they were just ‘blackened’ over time and blended in with the dark brown wood siding of the building.)

The girls thought the accommodations were quite lovely and immediately went to explore the 2 level unit. These townhouse accommodations are primarily used for the area ski resorts, so I knew not to expect the rich, dark cherry furnishings as in the more elaborate timeshare locations, ie., Williamsburg, Marriott Grande Vista, etc., however, nonetheless, the accommodations were very nice and perfect for our weekend needs. The bottom line was that the townhouse appeared clean and nicely appointed and the girls thoroughly enjoyed their time together.

The unit is equipped to accommodate 8 people and was spacious enough for the 6 of us - we never felt crowded. The lower level had 2 bedrooms (Queen and 2 Twins), a full galley-style kitchen, small full bathroom, living room, and dining area for 6. The upper level has a narrow staircase with about 15 steps leading up to the loft area; this staircase might have replaced the spirals that were originally built into these units. A portion of the upper level was a more spacious King Suite loft bedroom with the primary wall being acutely sloped (gotta be careful on that side of the bed). This loft bedroom was built above the 2 bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom and overlooked the living and dining areas. This suite had a semi-private full bathroom (garden tub, shower, toilet and sink) with a very interesting toilet set up – someone who’s claustrophobic probably wouldn’t be very comfortable using this – and if that same person had long legs, they wouldn’t be able to close the door without hitting their knees.) This upper bedroom has a TV, however, as with all loft areas, sounds are amplified between the upstairs and downstairs. Even with the volume of the TVs very low, there were dueling TVs; we eventually just gave up using the TV in the master bedroom. The Queen bedroom also had a small TV that received only a dozen channels or so; the other TVs received wider reception.

The living room had a nice size armoire TV along with a DVD/VCR. We couldn’t get the DVD player to work Friday night and called maintenance to assist; they arrived within 15 minutes and rewired the electrical units, which were apparently set up incorrectly.

The highlight of our weekend, of course, was the indoor / outdoor pool which is really lovely. The waterfall cave feature was quite entertaining for the girls. The thoroughly enjoyed the ability to swim outside in the winter while still being cozy warm by the comfort of the toasty water. The spa desk does provide small pool towels, however, we brought our own beach towels for added comfort. The washer and dryer in the unit came in very handy for drying the towels between uses. While the girls were in the pool Saturday morning, it started snowing very lightly; what a pleasant surprise. Early afternoon, we headed back to the townhouse for a late lunch. When we decided to go back to the pool about 4 that afternoon, a resident driving by warned us that the roads down the mountain were pretty slick with occasional patches of black ice. Since safety was my top priority with my precious weekend cargo, needless to say we headed back indoors to enjoy the comforts of our home-away-from-home. Although we were not ancitipating a freak snowstorm which left about 6” of snow and ice, the girls had a wonderful time having a snowball fight and making snow angels followed by hot chocolate. The later (11:00 a.m.) check-out time on Sunday morning was an added plus. All in all, we had a great time and would definitely go back.

MAINTENANCE NOTES TO MANAGEMENT: Flatware / dinnerwear was incomplete – there were only 3 teaspoons, 6 knives, 7 dinner plates, and a few bowls; I believe the remainder of the plating / flatware was intact. There were 7 pot lids, however, only 4 pots. Blind operating rods were missing on many of the windows.

It's a very nice place especially if you like to swim and are sports-minded. They have a well heated indoor swimming pool and a really hot outdoor pool you can swim out to even in the winter. You can play racquetball, basketball, full gym. At night Kites restaurant is fun and comfortable. Good food. Fireplace. DJ. One word of warning. Don't bring your valuables to the locker room if you swim or workout. Our locker was broken into and all our money stolen. Staff says it happens often. That was the only negative.

We vacation to Vernon often with family and friends and everytime stay at this hotel. I have never once had bad service. The rooms, pools, gym, and spa are very nice. The spa is a very nice adition to this hotel and I have had one of the best massages while staying there. Kites has fun entertainment on the weekends and during the summer the outdoor grill is nice to have while lounging by the pools. I would highly recommend this to all of my friends!
