I love the ambiance and history here. It's in the middle of the Delaware Water Gap. Beautiful views, spacious dining areas, incredible fireplace. Rustic and older. The food is simple. If you like food w/o a lot of jazz, then you will enjoy it. People go nuts for the bread. I'm a real flavor person, so the bread seems bland to me, but it's fresh and has a great consistency and I can understand why people like it. The salad bar is nothing special, again, it's quite simple and offers the basics. A Ruby Tuesday salad bar has more options. I had oysters tonight, they were delicious and prepared properly. I had a seafood sampler, fish, shrimp, scallops. It was ok. It was overpriced for the quality. Again, it was more of the simple flavor that I did not enjoy, but plenty of people like simple. I asked for tartar with it. My baked potato was small but tasted fine. My boyfriend had the prime rib and it was flavorful and he was very happy with it. He had the Apple crumb pie, I had the chocolate mousse pie. This and the oysters were my favorite part of the meal. The desert portion was appropriate and it was delicious.
If this was a local restaurant, I'd probably skip it, but I love the location and ambiance so I hit it once a year.
Next time I'm getting the burger, I just have a feeling it will be good.....or I'm hoping.
Also, service was excellent. My waitress was patient when I asked where the shrimp come from (Ecuador) and she was pleasant and attentive and had a wonderful happy glow about her. I wish I got her name.
My advice: try it once, you will know if it's your cup of tea or not. If you come from New York and are used to eating fine foods there, be mindful that the flavor profiles here are simple.
