We visited this spot recently on warm, spring early evening, to celebrate a reunion with a friend who has moved to Chicago. We were a group of ten. It was lovely...food was good, although there were some mixed reviews from a couple of the guests...the atmosphere delightful...and the waitress a real funny, capable young woman. We were able to sit and enjoy one another's company for a long time. Even though the restaurant is large, it is also spacious so we felt very comfortable and there was no problem with the staff for our lingering. I would like to return to Stone House this summer to sit outside and enjoy a Sunday brunch.

Having been here for a birthday party and been disappointed with the less than attentive staff we decided to give it one more try for a regular dinner. With no reservations went on a late Thursday afternoon. Couldn't get a booth for two (company policy that is has to be 3 or more - bummer) but got a decent table on the upper level near the open kitchen. I don't get all that excited about steaks in the last few years but the Flat Iron ($29.00 and the cheapest steak available) was Fantastic!! as were the crisp but delicately sautéed asparagus and the wonderfully crispy potatoes yet soft on the inside. Way to go Chef!!! My wife had the organic chicken ($23.00). Our server was noticeably cool but still more attentive than the ones were experienced last year.
Separate server handles the breads (3 choices and all good but I liked the garlic one best) and the water and was extremely attentive - thanks. The butter was also good quality and tasted like butter!! We capped off our dinner with a cheesecake ($10.00) which was absolutely delightful and the cappuccinos at $3.50/ea were great though small. Wine and beer averaged about $7.00/glass the Aquinas Chardonnay and Abita Light beer were good enough to have 2 of. All in all the place was vibrant, the ambience was earthy but classy, and the outdoor patio area intriguing and relaxing (they just build a new bar outside and am considering topping by to check it out) and with more pleasant weather on the horizon the place should be packed.

Be prepared to pay slightly over $100.00 per couple with a couple of drinks if you pick the more economical menu items. However, certain steaks are priced over $40 and so the total tab can be much greater. However, the experience is great and we left satisfied. I recommend this more for couples and parties than families with small children (though they do accommodate). I assure you it will be a memorable experience

I was a great fan of old the Ryland Inn which I had considered to be the best restaurant in NJ and am now glad to find a great follow on restaurant that follows in that tradition of cooking. Really fresh and unique salads and wonderful warm breads started our meal. The wine list lets you compliment any meal with the perfect drink. The entree (we chose seafood) was spectacular in its presentation and taste. The deserts are exceptional. The only drawback was the wait staffs inexperience in providing seamless service but that would not deter me from recommending this place to friends and family. This is also a great place for large gatherings.

I had a skate that was good but I had better ones. It is a big place which is well decorated but not intimate. Avoid Sundays with weddings.

It's all about the setting. The outdoor patio is gorgeous, although the seats are not the most comfortable. The interior is also beautiful, but why sit inside if the weather is wonderful?
Service was excellent.
The food was very good, but for the price, it was nothing exceptional.
If you are a bread enthusiast, you will be disappointed...not because the bread isn't good, but because you are only allocated one slice, from a waiter who walks around and allows you to chose between three offerings.
The menu is not extensive, however if you are a steak lover you have plenty to choose from.
It is definitely pricey. Our tab for two with tax and tip came to a little more than $100 for one beer, one glass of wine, one appetizer and two entrees (chicken and fish), but the surroundings made it worth it.
Not your everyday restaurant, but nice for a special occasion.

Thank Shelley M
