“La Quinta always pet friendly”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Although it was tricky finding this hotel (because of what I learned are called "jug handles' in NJ), it was not unlike other La Quintas. Nice accommodations - clean, comfortable bed, good lighting and friendly staff. Will stay here again if the chance arises.

We were visiting relatives who were having their guest room remodeled and planned to stay here four nights,. A few years ago it was an ok place - the hotel is very close to our relatives’ house and reasonably inexpensive. It’s not an ok place anymore and management doesn’t seem to care.

The heater in our room couldn’t be controlled. Regardless of the thermostat setting, when it was on it was on, overheating the room. When it was off, the fan still came on periodically ventilating the room with cold outside air.

The shower curtain rod was broken which made it sag, and the shower curtain a little too long, so the curtain covered a third of an already-narrow tub, which was an annoyance and a hazard. There were other little maintenance deficiencies, but except for the tub and heater it wasn’t a bad room. Since we planned to stay three more nights it seemed worthwhile to see if they would fix the heater and the curtain rod.

We also asked nicely for a blanket. The desk clerk, while not rude, was not especially cooperative or friendly, saying that what was in the room was all there was – no extra blankets available. We were able to talk the maintenance supervisor who was much friendlier but explained that the curtain rod was difficult to fix and that many of their heaters didn’t work right. Nothing could be done about either problem.

They offered to put us into a different room. There was no practical way for us the check the heaters, but all four rooms we looked at had broken shower curtain rods. The maintenance supervisor explained that the maids break the rods by yanking at the shower curtains.

These problems are clearly fixable. They haven’t been sued yet for a bathtub fall, so they don’t care. Another indication of the management’s attention to detail is the fruit available at breakfast - some sad-looking oranges and the greenest, most inedible-looking bananas I’ve ever seen anywhere.

Reluctantly, we checked out and moved to a different hotel. It would be interesting to see if they ever fix any of those curtain rods, but we don’t plan on going back to find out.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.

this is your basic motel that has had a face lift. It is set off route 23 and if you face the back the noise is tolerable. The rates are quite good. The rooms are extremely basic. We had the "exercutive" king which meant baiscally a fridge with a microwave on top of it and an arm chair. The room was quite small with the addition of those two items and really not suitable for hanging out in for any extensive time. However it is an easy place to stay if you are looking to get into NYC in a brief amount of time or attending a wedding or event at WPUNJ. The employees were extremely nice and helpful.

It is a basic room and hotel, but clean and a good value for being this close to New York City. Bed was comfortable and the shower was very nice. Breakfast had a limited selection. Front desk personnel were helpful.
