“What an unbelievable experience!”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Four of us girls were in Wildwood, NJ for a race and wanted to try a local place for seafood. Reading previous reviews, we all agreed to stop here for dinner. What a great decision! We pulled up and instantly got the "food truck" feel and LOVED it! The owners, Bill and Michelle, said they were only opened for the second day of the season. We all ordered their fish tacos and some clam chowder. All of it was delicious! The chowder is more broth based than cream based and was excellent. You didn't get the "concrete" in your tummy feel after eating it, which is always a bonus! While we ate at a picnic table outside by the boats, Bill sat with us and explained the fascinating job of fishing for all sorts of fish. It was truly a great experience listening to his stories, philosophies, and total love for what he does. You appreciate the fish you're eating a little bit more knowing what all goes into bringing it to your plate. The next day after our race we stopped by for lunch and had HUGE steamed shrimp and fried crab cakes. The fried part was very light and didn't over power the wonderful flavor of the crab. The remoulade sauce that came with the crab cakes was tasty...a little kick to it which was just enough. Again, Bill sat and talked with us and told us stories. We also had a chance to talk with his 13 yr old son, Will, who was very pleasant and expressed his love for fishing as well. Quite the young gentleman!

Running throughout Wildwood we saw plenty of places to eat but they were your typical "tourist" food that you find anywhere. Hooked Up is not your typical place to eat and offers not only amazing food but also a chance to talk with a great fisherman and his family. You can't miss the red and blue building as you're coming into town...truly a great place to stop! Thanks Bill and Michelle for giving us a tour and helping with directions! We hope to come back to try the ahi tuna!

“As Fresh As it Gets!”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

As a life-long seafood lover and somebody who works for the National Marine Fisheries Service, I take my seafood pretty seriously. Hooked Up Seafood, off exit four on the way to Wildwood, offers only the freshest seafood to satisfy even the most discerning of palates.

Hooked Up is owned and operated by a local fishing family, with the tuna and scallop boats tied up right behind the place. The tuna and swordfish are the freshest you're going to find anywhere, and the prices are more than reasonable. The atmosphere is very laid back, and you can enjoy your seafood while sitting at picnic benches overlooking the water and tidal marsh beyond.

The tuna seared rare with wasabi mayonnaise is fantastic. The tuna is so fresh and tender that it melts in your mouth, and the wasabi mayo just gives it a slight accent that really enhances the flavor of the tuna. The corn and salad that I ordered with it were both very fresh and the perfect compliment. I also tried the swordfish, which is usually a very dense fish when served in restaurants, but at Hooked Up I found it to be very light, tender, and loaded with flavor. Other standouts include the New England clam chowder and the PEI mussels, both are delicious. I still have not tried the crabs, but I look forward to doing so on my next visit.

If you like fresh, well prepared seafood in a friendly, family atmosphere, don't hesitate to stop at Hooked Up Seafood.

“As fresh as it gets!”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

The first time we pulled up to this permanent food truck parked in a small gravelly parking lot next to a dock in the swamps along a busy road, I was skeptical. It turns out Hooked Up was our most frequented restaurant during our two week stay in Wildwood.

Restaurant may not be the right word, as this place is literally a food truck with some adjacent picnic tables. However, the ambiance screams fresh fish. The tables are set up in the back along the dock, and you're right next to the fishing boats that were used to catch your food. If you get there early enough for lunch, you can watch the friendly Captain and his sons unloading and cleaning the catch. They were very nice about answering questions from their land lubbing customers.

You order at the window and go sit at the tables in the back. When they're done cooking your food they bring it out the back door to you. We had the crabs, shrimp and fish of the day, which were some the best we've ever had, but what kept us coming back was their fried flounder sandwich. It is lightly breaded, golden brown, moist and flaky, served on a bun with lettuce and tomato. Everything here is fresh and delicious. Not cheap, but worth it with every bite.

The thought of waiting a year for more Hooked Up seems like an eternity.

“DELICIOUS GENUINE FRESH SEAFOOD!”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

My husband and I were looking for fresh steamed crabs. Not crab cakes or crab stuffed whatever but good ole fashioned crack-em-open crabs. So I was so thrilled when we stopped at this place (saw the big crab flag hanging overhead) & thought "let's take a peek". OMG HEAVEN! We ordered a dozen and man were they were delicious! We had to wait 20 minutes which was fine bc they were cooking our crabs fresh!! Doesn't get any better than that! I will absolutely return every year and recommend to friends/family. Since I literally only had fresh crabs on the brain I didn't try anything else but will most certainly try the other selections on our next visit.

“You can't get any fresher”
Reviewed 24 August 2013

This place is a real gem--just a shack on the marina, really, but the boats behind it bring in the fresh seafood all day and it goes right from the line onto your dish. You can taste the difference that kind of freshness makes.

The crabs are always good--the night I went the snow crab legs were the special, and it's served by the bucketful with a big wooden mallet. Delicious. The swordfish is phenomenal (seared or blackened, in a sandwich or not), my one gripe being the swordfish sandwich didn't come with any kinds of sauce or condiment. A little tartar sauce on it would have been good, and would have eliminated just chewing on big hunks of dry bread.

Some things on the menu are a real steal, but some are a bit pricey. The special on another night was a swordfish filet with a Caesar salad, at $23. For a meal that's served on a paper plate on a picnic table, the $23 price tag was a bit steep. It was delicious, but that price is better suited to a fancier restaurant in the city rather than a shack by the marina.

All around though, great food.
