My good friend, Jason and I were forced to check out of our dilapidated motel in the middle of Wildwood Crest, NJ considering we were duped by blurry pictures and the false promise of Wi-Fi. Every other motel in the area was either booked or astronomically expensive. We were in the position to suffer in this rat trap or go home a day early. (I understand things do not always work out in life, but the breaks should happen on one's rare vacations.) We were at the mercy of another motel to take us on as guests. The Caribbean Motel was kind enough to let us stay there for two full nights despite the required 3-night minimum for Labor Day. The crescent-shaped pool is beautiful and heated. We also saved money on food considering they cook for us every night and provide free beer. The family atmosphere was also warm and welcoming. If you are traveling solo then you will not feel alone. Furthermore, they made me feel welcome and at ease, which does not always happen in these types of resorts because I have Asperger's syndrome and tend to give people the heebie-jeebies when they do not understand my harmless quirks. The staff was also tolerant toward some of my silly questions (that could have been answered by reading the welcome envelope) and were attentive to any concerns I had with the room. On another important note, it is located only a thirty-second walk from the beach and boardwalk. The place seeps with nostalgia from the 1950s as far as scenery, room ambience, music, and is total contrast from many of the condominiums that have sprouted up like cement weeds since my last family vacation to Wildwood Crest, NJ at age 7 in the late 1980s. The Caribbean Motel is part of the Doo Wop Motel District, which seeks to recapture an era destroyed by relentless progress. They seem very attentive toward constant improvement and even gave us a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) to give them compliments or criticism. I recommend this motel to anyone who wants a beautiful vacation to recapture old memories in a beach paradise that has been screwed by modernization in some parts or create new memories...

Room Tip: All rooms are great. Just be sure to close the curtains if you want privacy because some of the roo...

We stayed here for almost a week. The photos we saw online were gorgeous. The only gorgeous part of the motel is the common area, or lounge. But it was steaming hot since the AC wasn't turned on.

When we got to our room, the place looked outdated and felt dirty. There is a difference between retro and just being OLD. It smelled moldy. The carpet in the room was probably originally from the 1950s and never replaced. It looks nasty, actually. Shag carpet is cool and all, but not when it is so flat from years of wear and tear. I am sure it is clean, but how clean can carpet be when it's been there for over 50 years? The bathroom has not been updated since the 50s and the sink and tub looked rusty. I understand that it is retro, but at least update the place since you pay a premium to stay there.

The location is ok. You are about 1-2 big blocks from the ocean. Parking is very tight, but it's free.
Best thing about the hotel? The awesome doo-wop style sign outside.

People fall for this "retro" doo-wop crap, and think they should pay a lot for the retro experience. Don't kind yourself into thinking this is retro modern cool.

We love this place. Carolyn and George are great hosts, they make you feel like family. The rooms are big and clean. Donna is super she does her job with pride, willing to help with info or anything you need. And Marge wow... Great manager.
The food on their special weekends is worth coming back for. We love the Labor Day weekend, this will be our 3rd holiday weekend at the Caribbean Motel. Carolyn, is like the Energizer Bunny she never stops working, serving, taking care of her guests always with the perfect smile. And George we can spend the whole evening talking to him, he is a blast. Love them both. Saying they treat you like family is not an exaggeration!
They are putting a lot of work (and $$) into the Caribbean Motel it is great they are preserving a little bit of Doo-Wop history. You can tell it is a labor of love. So happy we found our little,, big resort. Will keep coming back... :-)

we fell in love with this motel on-line and knew we had to stay here this summer. we are super into everything retro and knew this motel would please us! we stayed here over 4th of july – thankfully they had one room left and were able to accommodate on a spur of the moment trip.

positives
- pool: really large, heated, and has a deep end (8ft). they also had a mini baby pool to keep the children safe. the pool did get pretty packed as soon as it opened (9am), but gradually got less crowded as the night went on. we had the pool to ourselves in the 5:00 hour. it is open til 9pm with only adults allowed from 8pm – 9pm.
- location: the motel is only a block from the beach (wildwood though has a long walk to the ocean). it is also only two blocks from the start (or end however you want to look at it) of the boardwalk. the shops on the crest end of the boards are great (arcade for the kids, dairy queen for your sweet tooth: we have sweet teeth, breakfast and lunch spots, and a few stores for souvenirs). being in wildwood crest is great, it’s quiet, you’re within walking distance to great restaurants, mini-golf, ice cream, bike rentals, etc. though the crest is a dry town if you’re in the mood for a cold one only about 5 blocks from the caribbean you will find a bar.
- room: the room was great, awesome air conditioner, a little kitchenette, comfy beds, a table and chairs, a dresser, a (not so) mini fridge and a flat screen tv. the bathroom is small but we knew to expect this in wildwood. a few chairs outside your room make it perfect to chill during the day or late night. it is super charming!
- we had a room on the ground floor and it worked for us. it seemed that all the rooms had good placement for limited disruptions for relaxation.
- events: caribbean hosts various events throughout the year that are included with your stay. for fourth of july all guests were invited to a bbq lunch. so yum!

negatives
- there is not a snack machine, though they do sell candy and chocolate in the reception once that is closed (not open 24 hours) you have to walk to a nearby motel and use a machine. we often need(!!) midnight snacks so we’ll plan accordingly next time we visit.
- cool merchandise in the reception but nothing in our size. maybe next time 

the caribbean was perfect for us. really nice, the grounds and rooms were super clean, it was close to everything we wanted to enjoy in wildwood, and the super cool décor took us on a trip to another decade when the fun in wildwood all began! we’re looking to go back october to enjoy the heated pool and possibly some special events they have planned.

Was pleasantly surprised when we arrived - the motel had a feel of its own. The room was a nice size and spotless with microwave & refrig. - the pool was lovely and very clean with plenty of chairs & lounges around, but what made the Caribbean Motel stand out from the rest were the Owners, Carolyn & George who socialized with their guests and made you feel so welcomed there. Their unique idea of serving food at a Motel added so much enjoyment and got you socializing with the other guests - (may I say the food was exceptionally delicious prepared by the Chief). Could not get over how Carolyn helped served the food to her guests like you were visiting her in her home and wanted you to be comfortable and feel like you belonged. And let's not leave out the rest of the staff - Marge, the property mgr. could not have been more helpful; always ready to make your stay there enjoyable. Her dedication to working here really says it all - Where do you ever socialize with the person who takes care of your room - well, that's Donna who was a delight and Steve, the person I spoke with on the phone when I booked the room was always so pleasant to deal with as he answered all my questions about an area we weren't familiar with. The atmosphere was enhanced by having the 50's/60's music playing around the property and in the room. The only thing bad I can say is - vacation came to an end and we had to leave. God willing we will be back again. Highly recommended.

After living in New Jersey for 18 ys and been to every street of the State, dozen times to Shore, two times to Cape May, it was our columbus discovery to the land of Wildwood, South NJ. Dense town with one of the largest, bad beach run over by free-loaders, China like populated, middle class odd shaped people. Wildwood has few avenues but about 100 blocks all with red lights. Nice breakfast restaurants like Amish Village and Avalon Coffee. Nice boardwalk with shuttle service. Beauty of the place is you are about 20 mts away from Cape May, and the drive is great with water and old time bridges.

Still could not explain properly to wife what 'doo wop' means, at historic Carribean Motel, we had the best and the costliest ($556 for 2 nights) room of the motel, #214 with a 'ocean sneaky view". Joe is the most sincere guy there to help you. Avoid straw-hatted owner George as a free dinner server but Carolyn is very sweet, even she takes round of second floor watchers to serve dessert. We had good time on July 4th. Bathroom towels need cleaning. Staff is busy, forgot about tea-coffee fillers. Dinner is good, swimming pool is always full, but our neighbors were all excellent residents, sitting in peacefully and reading phones on verandah chairs, all well fed.

Room Tip: Dont go for first floor ground rooms, the best is #214 or next to that.
