“Extremely disappointed; misled by other reviews”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2013

At some time, this hotel was ranked with 4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor, but WOW! were we ever disappointed!!! I can't believe we paid what we did for this place!!! The good -- very friendly, nice front-desk staff; soft towels; comfortable bed. The bad -- tiny room and bathroom with very limited seating area with plastic chairs. 4 people in the room are like sardines. Rust areas in bathroom ceiling and shower curtain rod. Mildew in shower. Shower curtain too narrow and didn't close the shower entrance so either the sink or the floor got drenched depending on to which side we decided to pull the curtain. Dead bugs in ceiling light covers. No, it's definitely not a spa or a resort.

I just spent the Labor Day weekend at the Coliseum. The room was clean, everything worked, staff were all friendly and the view from the third floor was impressive. Judging by the number of repeat customers I met most people who stay there are very happy with the accommodation. I didn't hear one word of criticism from the folks I met during my stay and the place was full - guess the critics are just picky?

Two friends also came to join me and they were equally impressed.

One great thing is that the area is quiet at night, with no loud music or partying to disturb your sleep.

There's sensibly priced food on site plus a great bar/restaurant and a good deli about 5 mins walk away (both straight up Miami Ave, the bar/restuarant is across the road at the end and the deli is three blocks right) so you don't have to go far. There's also a very useful area with two huge gas BBQs residents can use.

I have no problems recommending the place and would go back if I ever found myself that way again.

Room Tip: Try for second or third floor because the first floor is right on the parking lot.

This place is expensive and "resort" is a misleading information. Our room was dirty. Rust on kitchen appliances and old TV. No Internet Access!!! Bathroom was really small. It's a waste of time and money. This was such a bad experience for all of us. Don't trust pictures and information what you can find on their their website. Next year we will plan our vacation better.

Room Tip: Always read reviews before you book.

Please don't be fooled like I was reading the Coliseum home page. There is nothing there that closely represents either a SPA or a Resort. Outdated would be a kind description of this run-down, flea-ridden excuse for a motel. A complete waste of money; not to mention a disappoiting vacation. The kitchen table was a cheap plastic outdoor table with cheap plastic chairs; the air conditioners were old and musty; no water pressure for a shower and the drains didn't work well. The laundry facility was a joke; you have to bang on the washer to get the water going and it took 2 hours to dry the clothes in the dryer. Also, if you are planning on making this a work vacation, think again. Internet connection was completely unreliable. Don't be fooled by the penthouse pictures either. The penthouse sits on top of the office with a view of the parking lot. We had a pick-up truck that barely fit in the parking spot.

Do not stay at this mote!. It is scary and dirty. Not worth the $300.00 I paid for the room. Total rip off. I would not stay there again if it was free. Worst place I have stayed in my entire life. My kids were afraid to sleep on the beds. Everything was dirty, rusted, outdated. Bathroom was small, dirty, no place to place anything or hang anything up. Please stay away for your own health!!

The only good thing about my stay at the Coliseum was that it was right on the beach. I think the owner should consider hiring a new manager and staff. They didn't seem to show any pride or interest in their jobs. EVERYTHING was outdated. The entire place was dirty inside and out. If you are going to call it a RESORT than make it look like one. The palm trees outside were all dead. For God's sake get new ones. They aren't that expensive. The soda machine didn't work. The pool area was dirty and uninviting. The cushions on the pool chairs were stained and faded. The gate to the pool didn't close properly. A danger if you have small children. Needless to say we never used the pool. There was so much dust on the floor around my bed. I was afraid to go to sleep. The shower curtain had mold on it. I was afraid to take a shower. We booked the trip with our family. We had 2 rooms but only 1 parking spot. We had to walk 2 blocks to get to our car. I could go on and on...I spent a lot of money and was very disappointed.

The rooms are very veryyy small. No closets & nowhere to hang wet towels/bathing suits. The bathrooms & kitchens are outdated. The floor area around the refrigerator had rust stains. Bathroom shower curtain & tiles had mildew. Floors were filthy. Pool was tiny & the lounge chairs had cushions from 1980. Parking is limited & the spots are very tight. The only positive comment i can make about this place is the location. I would never recommend staying here & will never go back.
