Madrid Oceanfront Condominiums
Ranked #55 of 68 Hotels in Wildwood Crest

For our first time in Wildwood, i can say that I like this place and will definitely consider coming back. We have spectacular view from the 4th floor. Yes, like a lot of rentals in Wildwood, the building is old. One thing the owner of the building should do is to collect trash regularly, so it does not pile up by the staircase on each floor. It becomes an eye sore when its overflowing like that. Each unit is individually owned. Our unit 403B needs some updating but its not bad at all. It can definitely use some new kitchen tools, like utensils, glasses and coffemaker. And also, the owner should put a mop or broom for the renters to use. I am a mom of three boys and i like to keep our room clean but i dont have anything to clean the floor, so i used paper towels to mop the floor. The AC is installed by the front door so the back bedroom can be hot at night, good thing i have a portable fan. The employees are very friendly specially Oliver. We arrived there early and he let us checked-in without a problem, even gave my little kid a surprise, a pail and shovel to use in the beach! Nice! I also love the location, its quiet and not too crowded. Its only 2.5 miles away from the boardwalk. There is a supermarket nearby too. The heated swimming pool is small but nice. It can be crowded during the day but I had a nice relaxing swim late in the afternoon. All the negative reviews about this place really made me so anxious and nervous but it all melted away when I sat on the balcony staring at the wonderful view. Its not a five star hotel but its clean and comfortable! Great oceanfront place to stay!

The bad reviews are not what I experienced.
All of the tension from work and family melted away as I sat on the balcony looking out at the ocean watching the dolphins swimming by.
Each unit is owned and decorated individually. Most owners have completely updated their units. You can actually look at each room online before you book. The condo association had begun a face lift on the building this year. I can't wait to see how it looks next year.
There is a fine dining BYOB restaurant on the first floor that should be featured on Food TV (yes the food is that good).
The boardwalk and the amusements are a short trolley ride away. Wake up in the morning to breath taking sunrises from your balcony and don't miss the beautiful sunsets that can be viewed with a walk or short ride to the bay.
This place is a hidden gem.

Room Tip: Rooms near the stairs have more shade and stay cooler. Eat at the on-site restaurant early in your v...

This year makes the second time staying here and i enjoy it very much. The rooms are clean. The one we had was an efficiency room.It has a living room type area joined with a kitchen and a separate room with double beds. We do have to bring our own linens but they do have everything you need in the kitchen. No one bothers you, the rooms are ocean view and the pool is clean. So if you are in Wildwood crest this place is good to stay in.

Room Tip: The room i was in is good for 6 people.

We were visiting friends in PA and they suggested going to Jersey Shore for a couple of days. All I've ever seen is the ads for the TV programme so couldn't really imagine what the place would be like. When we arrived it was about 6pm at the start of Fireman's Weekend (Bonus;) The two 'condos' were on the 5th floor with magnificent views but one of them hadn't been cleaned. The person on reception thought there was some doubt as to who would sort that... eh no! If you have young kids you are constantly on edge as the bars on the balloon bottom railings are about 5" apart, I have never suffered from vertigo but I did for two days at JS.
The room had everything we needed apart from a couple of comfy beds, they creaked and rustled as you moved so you ended up static for the night and sore in the morning. Our friends were further along the landing and had a block party around them until about 2am on the Sunday morning. We didn't have that problem, just a noisy AC unit that had the same effect.
We were having BBQ on the Saturday evening but only one of the large units worked so we ended up waiting for the other family to finish. First night we went to the 'pizzeria' under the next property but the stuff was dire so didn't go back. There is a diner/restaurant under the hotel where we had Saturday morning breakfast, it was lovely. The beach is spotless and really wide so if that's your thing and you're just looking for somewhere to lay your head it's ok but it doesn't even come up to the European 2.5-3 star standard.
Further down the list of reviews you'll find a blatant advert for someone own condo (complete with name and phone number), it's probably just as bad as the others and when someone doesn't have the brains to use an something totally different as a screen name you would really be better taking your chance with one of the other 'gems' ;)

Room Tip: See if you can get a new photo of the condo they are giving you or give it a miss!

We have stayed at Madrid a couple years ago when it was still a hotel. Great service, clean rooms, no complains at all. This year it was a nightmare. We get over the fact that we have to bring our linens but when we came we found out that there is only refrigerator and microwave in the room. No single plate, spoon or cup. NOTHING. We have complained to the girl at the reception desk. She tried to call manager several times with no response. There were no rooms available to switch and no refunds. After 2 hours we went to Walmart and bought cook stove, plates etc. The lease clearly states: " All units are equipped with cable TV, wall unit air conditioning, refrigerator, stovetop, dishes, eating utensils, cookware, toaster, automatic coffee maker." NOT TRUE!!!
The building is dirty, with garbage overflowing. The rooms are outdated with terrible mattresses and old furniture. The linens that are rented are left on the floor for hours before are taken to the laundry room. The swimming pool is still great but many chairs and tables that were there two years ago are gone. One grill was not working at all and there was only one outside table.
We will never come back to Madrid.

We recently stayed this summer...August...and to our dismay, found the so called condo's really a boarding house. The rooms are average size and the location nice with your room facing out at the ocean BUT...the room itself is outdated....terrible bedding, extremely tiny bathrooms, decor and paint jobs poorly done and/or maintained....cracks in walls clearly old and never attended to, floors are dull and dirty...claimed just recently done which may be true but they are not cleaned or maintained....its really like being in a boarding house....but you're paying much more and for nothing more then the view of the ocean and easy access to beach....I'd rather walk a block and pay less and have a clean and decent room...the service is basically null and void....a hello with thanks for the money and they're done with you....no help with attractions, restaurants, directions, etc....it's like the help doesn't know where they live....and that is not professional in any which way....we made the best of it but definitely will not be back....there are many other places to stay....perhaps not right on the beach....but close enough and cheaper, cleaner, maintained and staffed professionally and we've been coming to Wildwood for years....just not to the Madrid anymore.

Room Tip: all floors give you a view of the ocean but all rooms are different....most from our talking with ot...

Simply put: The Madrid is a great place to stay. It is NOT a 5-Star Hotel (I should know - I've stayed in several). It is a Jersey shore motel. I wonder if some of the people who have written poor reviews have ever been to the Jersey shore. The motels are cheesy - that's part of their charm. But they are also fun, convenient, and family-friendly.

The Madrid is located right on the edge of the beach and every room faces the ocean. The view alone is worth the price of admission. The morning sunrise and evening "moon rise" are spectacular. Beyond that...the rooms are pleasant, if not extraordinary. We stayed in a "Type B" room - a bedroom with 2 beds, another bed in the "living area," a large kitchen table, a fridge/freezer, microwave, oven, stove, sink, etc. It was clean and neat. The hotel pool and the area around it is clean and well-kept. My kids - two of them under 11 - loved the pool. There were always other kids to play with and they made lots of new friends.

The motel is family-friendly - it's not at all noisy. There were no loud parties going on. In fact, it was very quiet between 9pm and 9am. Everyone was friendly. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Some people have complained about the lack of linens or maid service. They warn you about this when you make reservations. You can "rent" linens/towels when you get there - they aren't expensive. Do you make your own bed at home and keep your house clean? It's no different here. Get over it. (Sorry - that's my Jersey-side coming out.)

This was our 2nd year in a row staying here and we are already looking forward to next year. If you don't want to stay here, that's fine with me - it'll just make it easier for us to get reservations! But for everyone else: If you want a pleasant, family-friendly place to stay, a place that's right on the beach with great views of the ocean, and a place that's convenient to Cape May and the Boardwalk, go to the Madrid.
