We just returned from our 3rd summer vacation (10 days) at The Crusader and upon check-out we booked our reservations for June 2014. The management and staff are outstanding (thank you Alan for your restaurant recommendations, Menz was great and thank you Gizelle for an immaculate room each and every day). The 3rd floor ocean view balcony is a little piece of paradise. We travel with friends who have two young children and The Crusader is an extremely family friendly resort. The pool is cleaned and tested daily and it has an enclosed area for the babies. It is just steps from the beach and a short walk to the boardwalk. Our sincerest thanks to Jane for a superior establishment and for making us feel more welcomed each and every year...see you next June!
PS) we get dibs on rooms 303 & 304 (wink)

Thank you for staying with us again this year, it was our utmost pleasure to have your family and your friend's family as our guests. I certainly need not ask if you all enjoyed your yourselves, one only had to observe.

There are many fine restaurants in the area, as you know, but the "little ones" should enjoy the experience just as much as the adults.

I/we look forward to having you as our guests again next year.

Best Regards,
Alan

We spent 5 days at The Crusader. We had an ocean front suite with a door we could close between the living area and bedroom area. The room was very clean every day. We had two double beds and a pull out couch. I slept on the pull out and found it to be pretty comfortable. Everyone on staff, from the front desk, to the cleaning staff, to the maintenance staff was friendly. Our view of the incredibly wide beach was fabulous. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go including the boardwalk and restaurants. The Crusader Restaurant, located downstairs was very convenient and was good. We will definitely be back!

Thank you for your kind words, they are very much appreciated by the entire staff.

Yes, our beach is one of the most beautiful in the world and we were truly blessed to have been spared by Sandy's wrath. We are thankful every day that we can share our beautiful island with families like yours!

Best regards, and we all look forward to your visit next year.

Just returned from 5 days with my daughter and grand children at the Crusader. Loved the ocean view from our balcony. Clean, well maintained facilities. Friendly staff. Especially enjoyed breakfast on the outdoor patio. Nice little restaurant for breakfast and lunch. The location is convenient to the boardwalk and restaurants, bike rental is nearby, playground is right down the street. Absolutely family appropriate during our visit. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms have private balconies.

We just got home from our 3 night stay at the Crusader. I booked our room back in February, and picked the Crusader partially because it was called a family resort - which led me to believe it was more family friendly than some of the resorts with less partying. Our room was fine and the staff seemed friendly enough. However, our trip was practically ruined by the fact that there were several large groups staying there the same time as us who were very loud until all hours of the night. Each of our three nights adults sat on the sun deck and drank and talked/yelled while their children ran wild. Adults and children yelled to one another from down by the pool. It was as if these reunions thought they had booked the entire resort and nobody else mattered. On the first night, my 5 and 7 year old were still up at 10:30 p.m. because of the noise. Since there is supposedly a noise curfew at 11 p.m. in wildwood crest, I called the front desk at 10:50 p.m. to ask if they planned to do anything to enforce the curfew and (I believe his name was Paul) told me someone would be around in the next hour. It didn't help, and it continued each of the following nights - every day of our short trip our days activities were limited by my kids exhaustion. So much for a family resort!

Please accept our sincerest apologies.

The families you are referring to (actually five families - it just seemed like a lot more to us) have been coming here for many years. We have never experienced a problem with them like this in previous years. Paul did respond to your notification right away and two additional times shortly there after.

I spoke with the families the next morning and the following evening. Unfortunately, some people just don't understand how to behave as a guest in someone's "home". Therefore they will not be welcome in our "home" anymore.

For more than forty years we have taken pride in offering our guests a family friendly resort and we will continue to do so. Please consider staying with us again and I can assure you a pleasant stay.

Thank you,
Alan

Just returned from 4 nights. The room was oceanfront and clean. The beds were nice and the air cone worked great. The restaurant is great for breakfast and lunch. Fast, friendly and good food. Pool has a small "lower part" and drops from 5-11 feet quickly.
Parking is VERY tight. If you have a van or a bigger car, good luck. We came home after the boardwalk one night and there were only 2 tiny spots left. I could not fit my mini van so I had to park in the street. Other than that a nice hotel to spend some time at the Jersey Shore!

Room Tip: Get an ocean front room!

Thank you for your review. We are all please you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return.

I do apologize for the parking situation. The Crusader, like every motel on the island, has tight parking. We do have one parking spot per room and monitor the parking lot and garage constantly to avoid any problems.

I have passed your compliments on to the restaurant staff. Thank you on their behalf.

I hope that we will have the pleasure of your company again.

Regards

Very Clean, staff is super friendly, quiet atmosphere - I fell asleep on the pool deck as I listened to the sound of the ocean. I would recommend this resort to my family and friends.

I plan on returning and staying here throughout the summer season.

Room Tip: stay on 105 (pool and deck)

First off the good things. The beds were comfy and the restaurant (which is not run by the hotel owners) was excellent. An older gentleman running the hotel was very nice and took the time to apologize for us not feeling welcome. Now the bad news. We started off with a desk rep (blonde haired woman) who was far from inviting. Although we knew check-in was 3pm we arrived early and having a chemo patient with us asked if we could get in the room early so she could rest. They made a note to call us as soon as the room was ready. After 3pm and no call we had to go back and ask again to check in. As I haven't been to a hotel in 20 years that doesn't provide shampoo we had to buy theirs. Had to ask several days for the correct amount of washcloths (for both rooms). Fold away couch was a stained mattress with a mattress pad that was a square in the middle and no way covered the bed...had to pull sheets from the beds to put on it. Pool closes at 6pm so don't think you are going to go to the ocean in the day and then enjoy any early evening swimming at the hotel. Went to the pool once and they were out of pool towels because they were behind in laundry or something. Pool water was milky and cold. Sink water didn't shut off unless you could get it "just right". Left overstuffed garbage can one day they didn't empty. Arcade?? A joke! Two working games and lost money in the token machine as it was out of order too! Back to El Coronado for us next year!!

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I would like to respond to your issues with directness.

You arrived approximately 11:15 AM just following a massive checkout of almost every room, and we had as many arrivals due in. We make every effort to accommodate guests who have advised us in advance of an early arrival time. I thought you had a much better understanding and acceptance of our procedures after our conversation when you received the keys to both of your rooms.

I do not agree that the there were any issues with the pool, other than perhaps a closing time of 6PM. And I have yet to hear an objection to that closing time (the pool remains open until 7 PM starting July1). The pool is checked by a state approved independent testing agency once a week. The pool was tested and inspected the day after you arrived and it was above acceptable standards as far as clarity, chemical balance and general condition.

The sofa bed mattresses were replaced this spring (prior to opening).

The change machine was out of order for two days (an out of order sign was posted on it indicating that tokens could be purchased at the front desk).

What concerns me is the fact that you and your family came into "our home" and treated one of your two rooms like it was a fraternity house. This would be the room the young adults occupied. The room occupants often displayed a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door preventing housekeeping from doing the appropriate service. Unfortunately, it was not until you had checked out and left the property that we discovered the condition of the room including but not limited to an inordinate amount of trash, a sloppy dirty bathroom and kitchenette and coffee spilled from one end of the room to other. The housekeeping department spent hours cleaning and shampooing carpet and furniture.

No, you will not be returning to the Crusader next year.

Each of us has expressed our disappointment. Having said this we still want to express our good wishes to you and your family for a successful outcome to the health issues you are dealing with.
