The Kabouga 4x4 trail is just that a no frills wonderful wildreness experience through some truly spectacular scenery and mountain passes. Most of the route can be comfortably completed in normal drive mode but once one enters the Bedrogfontein section it becomes necessary, at times to engage low ration 4x4. There is a charming cottage offering comfortable accommodation, decent braai ( barbecue) facilities and a really cool swimming pool in the shape of an old round reservoir complete with water leguaan ( monitore lizard) and other facinating creature. As you climb out nothwards, one passes the place where General Jan smuts ambushed the following British troops during the Anglo-Boer war and spectacular Cycads that cling to the mountain slopes, rising up to the summit where stunning views both north into the interior of the Little and Great Karoo as well as south to the distant Southern Ocean can be enjoyed before decending into the arid Karoo and Lake Darlington. Lovely experience with a wide diversity of animals and scenery to keep you enthralled
