Quite expensive but then that is the Cattle Baron. Food was good and service good. Excellent variety on the menu.

I ordered fish as I had had enough red meat in the past few days, but …
I should have known not to order sole when I heard that there were 2 to a portion, as this means that they are (usually 2 x baby soles); being so thin, they were a tad overcooked & dry. Also too spiced for my liking. The chips looked undercooked & didn’t taste good (I left nearly all of them) & the lemon butter sauce didn’t seem to have much butter.
On the other hand, Mikes Chateaubriand was very good and his mushroom sauce “not bad” (to quote him). Unfortunately the Bernaise sauce was not a proper Bernaise sauce (2nd bad Bernaise sauce experience on this trip of ours). We used to frequent the one & only original Cattle Baron in Bellville, Cape Town and nearly always had their delicious Chateaubriand.
The chocolate fondant was very sweet, so I assume it wasn’t made with a 70% cocoa content chocolate and the cream was from a foam gun with sugar added, which put us off ordering Irish coffees. Mike’s malva pudd was “ok, not great, a bit dry”

The restaurant is attached to the national park's main reception and shop, so no real view to speak of, but its structure is of the stuff that sells SA to foreign tourists - a cosy interior, just completely refurbished, with an adjoining open air area under thatch.

The menu is pretty standard Cattle Baron fare, including their hot buffet, which was our choice. The offer is a wide choice of hot dishes ranging from chicken pie to calamari, and a selection of vegetables. The food was tasty and well prepared but not been kept quite as hot as we ould have wished

Buffet is after all self service, but for drinks the service was courteous and friendly.
