“Unhappy experience”
Reviewed 6 August 2014 via mobile

We were excited to visit this eaterie with a big reputation, especially as our travelling companion had visited a year earlier and had had such a fine experience he wanted to return!
So, disappointed when his house speciality starter of burrata was not creamy in the centre, he referred the matter to the waitperson ... Who questioned whether our friend knew how it should be presented ... !!!
Service was decidedly off from that point and though the other plates were good the evening was spoiled and we couldn't wait to leave.
Easily the worst night out during our 4-week trip.
Next day we tried to appraise the management of our grievance we were given the brush-off!

Dear Habibisambo

Thank you for your valuable feedback - however your review is alarming and we would like to get to the bottom of what happened.

I am truly sorry for the shortfalls experienced during your visit to our beautiful Estate.

I cannot help to notice the specific dish question: Our Burrata dish has not been on the menu for a while now, so I would like to establish when you visited the restaurant and take it from there.

Our General Manager at Grande Provence would be happy to be in direct contact with you.
His email address is generalmanager@grandeprovence.co.za.

Kind Regards

“Highly recommended”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

A friend and I decided to treat ourselves to dinner at Grande Provence and what a treat it was! The food was fantastic, the taste and presentation was exquisite and the service was great. Between each course there is a little complimentary dish from the chef which is a nice touch. At the end of the evening we spent more than half an hour with their card machines which were not working properly, therefore a tip would be to take cash so as not to get frustrated (nothing they could do about it though). I would definitely recommend it to any person in the Franschoek area looking for a treat!

“Elegant and welcoming”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

I attended a family birthday celebration in their private dining room, The Jonkershuis. The venue is absolutely beautiful with the warmth of dining at home.

We started with an lovely selection of canapes and sparkling wine, followed by a delicious 4 course meal. The set menu provided an excellent selection with wine pairing. The wine was SUPERB but I nearly fell out my chair when I asked the waiter the price per bottle - thankfully my brother was paying :-)

Staff were friendly and attentive and had a lovely roaring fire going on the patio for the smokers.

The dining room has there own private bathroom facilities, so not need to walk to the main restaurant. The Art Gallery is also adjacent to the venue.

We spent the night in their La Provençale cottage which was beautifully appointed surrounded by vines and majestic mountains.

An expensive venue for locals but beautiful for those special occassions. If hiring for a special function, negotiate on venue hire in addition to cost per head.

“Really special place to dine!”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

I decided to treat my husband to another dinner at this very special restaurant for his birthday. Once again they didn't disappoint! Food delicious, attention to detail with presentation outstanding and service just perfect! Only problem I have was that it was an exceptionally cold evening and there was no heating apart from a fire going in a small pizza oven which was nowhere adequate. A nice fireplace would add warmth and would be a welcome addition to this exceptional restaurant!
