Nestled at the end of a 2.5 km driveway this "Inn" is one of the most delightful places you will stay in. Accessed through the Vrede en Lust winery (good place) Cathbert has a fantastic location, great staff who are very helpful, and if you want to dine in style they can do that for you as well. Halfway between Paarl and Franschhoek Cathbert is somewhere that we can heartily recommend. The "eco pool" needs to bed itself in but it is also quite novel and very pretty.

This lodge has been beautifully renovated recently and the owners have spared no expense on the refurbishments. The staff are all very welcoming and very knowledgeable on the local area and offer recommendations on what to see and do. The lodge is located at the end of a long drive, within one of the vineyards, offering a very safe and quiet place to relax. They offer a great breakfast and also dining option, which is high quality and at a good price. We would highly recommend this lodge to anyone visiting the wineyard area...you won't want to leave..we didn't!

The Cathbert is not easy to get to - but bear with the directions because once you arrive you won't want to leave!!! The rooms are newly refurbished, the decor is fab. The gardens for the luxury suites are just stunning, you really get to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful break, highly recommended.

Cathbert offers something special: it's a welcoming down-to-earth guesthouse with luxury to boot. We loved the people, the situation and the suite. Admittedly it is quite expensive, but its Fraschoek: that's how they roll. Our suite was beautifully decorated with a great view over the garden, to the dam and vineyards. The bed was completely awesome: electric blankets and ENORMOUS down pillows. The breakfast was excellent with a great selection of fresh fruit as well as delicious and exciting cooked breakfast options. It is a little out of town and the driveway through the wine farm needs to be taken slowly, but it is quiet and beautiful out there. There are mountains to climb or easy paths to stroll and you can easily pop into town to sample the plethora of restaurants, but they do offer dinner on the property.
The staff are welcoming and warm. Just a really good place.

We have stayed here twice. Last time was as part of our honeymoon simply because we couldn't think of anywhere better. It ticks all the boxes, great location, beautiful accommodation/grounds, fantastic service, delicious food...
Aubrey and his team have made Cathbert very special. We would recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: The honeymoon cottage is divine. A couple of minutes walk from the dining area/bar, it has 2 bedroom...

When I looked at the website I saw that the guesthouse is located in Franschhoek, which was one of the reasons I choose it. When I drove there I found out that it is about 18 km away from Franschhoek and in the first place I was not happy with that, but then I realized that this is even better, because it is right in the middle between Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl. The guesthouse is on a vineyard surrounded by beautiful trees with a stunning view onto the mountains. The people were very charming and caring. The rooms are getting new bathrooms (a few of them were already done and look great) and there will be a new deck and restaurant built this year from May to August. The plans look great and it will be beautiful.

Room Tip: Taking one of the bigger rooms might be a good choice, if you also want to enjoy the view from your...

My (now) husband and I recently travelled to SA for our wedding. I stayed at Cathbert the night before the wedding with my bridesmaids, in the two-bedroom cottage, which was perfect for us to all get ready on the big day. My husband and I then stayed in one of the luxury suites for two nights after the wedding, and were just in awe of the beautiful views and tranquil surroundings. The breakfast was delicious, the beds were amazingly comfortable and the service from everyone at the guesthouse was excellent. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: The two-bedroom cottage is secluded and peaceful, if you're looking for something on the quieter...
