“Another nice stay at Basse Provence”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2013

We are 2 elderly couples that stayed at Basse Provence in 2011 and liked it so much that we returned again in November 2013. We had the same rooms - The Elisabeth and Jacobs' suites on the top floor of the Country House. The rooms had got a new thatched roof recently and were therefore smelling a bit unpleasant. Apart from that everything was as nice as we remembered. We enjoy the garden and the pool and the beautiful surroundings overlooking the mountains. The staff including Shany is very kind and helpful. The breakfast is made to order and therefore fresh and we enjoy the yougurt and fresh fruit. We would certainly come back if returning to South Africa.

This is a lovely charming accommodation in Franschhoek. Very kind staff and a kind owner. Breakfast is good and it has an amazing view over the winelands. We stayed in room 2. It has a separate bathroom, and unfortunately one wall has an opening directly above the kitchen. This means that from 8 a.m untill 10 a.m you can smell the fried sausages and eggs... This is not very pleasant.

We would definately stay there again, but then in room 1 or 3

Room Tip: Go for room 1 or 3

We stayed in the Gideon Suite for 3 nights and this was just as the website had suggested. Beautiful room, the comfiest bed and lovely gardens and pool, and with very few other guests in low season it felt at times we had the place to ourselves.
Communal areas were less impressive and perhaps need a little work but the staff are very friendly and helpful and served a great breakfast.

Room Tip: We looked at other rooms in the same building and preferred Gideon to Pauline (it's bigger and h...

So close to town yet far enough to be in the country, We spent our honeymoon weekend at this charming comfortable yet elegant country manor. Clean comfortable homely rooms, delicious assortment of breakfasts and warm friendly staff. Thank you for a lovely stay. Graham & Sandy

Rustic guest house on a farm, very peaceful, friendly service. Stayed in a room on the top floor, smell of thatched roof was not the most pleasant. Large room, cabin feel, very slippery floor in bathroom. Nice breakfast. A bit far (3 km) from main part of town where restaurants etc are located.

I spent the weekend at Basse Provence in the beginning of May when i was there for a wedding. I booked into the Elizabeth Suite as a bit of an indulgence, and it was completely worth it. Even though I arrived well after what was supposed to be the check in time, the friendly staff waited around for me.
The room is gorgeous with a view of the mountains and fields. It's very peaceful there. Not too far to drive into town and surrounded by some nice wine farms and a great restaurant at Rickety Bridge. Breakfast at the Manor House was lovely and made to order, so it's fresh.

I'd highly recommend it for couple for a quiet weekend away, or even a solo traveller.

We had a wonderful time staying at Basse Provence Bastille weekend 13-14 July 2013. The rooms are spacious and unique and very good value. The staff were friendly and helpful, the cottage was beautiful, and the breakfasts were lovely! I will definitely recommend you to friends visiting the area in future.

Room Tip: Any room is good
