We have booked the whole venue for our wedding guests to stay and all of them have nothing but praise for Basse-Provence. The rooms are large and luxurious, with huge bathrooms. The staff was extremely helpful and catered to all our guests need, even the unexpected. The scenery is incredible and the venue is very quiet, with a cosy atmosphere and the food was great, we really recommend it !

We recently stayed at Basse Provence with some friends. We got a really nice room overlooking the swimming pool, the room was an upstairs unit and from the outset looked to be an excellent place to stay.
But looks as they say, can be deceiving. All the doors in the room are really low, even the door to the on suite toilet was low, I found this out the hard way a few times hitting my head rather hard a couple of times in the middle of the night, there are also two wooden beams in the room that are a hazard in the daytime, never mind in the dark. The bed was quite large, two beds pushed together in fact, the problem is the mattress on my side of the bed was tired and sagging and I woke up with a sore back on both mornings.
On the second night we had had a long day out and all we wanted to do was get an early night, this was not to be the case as there seems to be a club or shebeen located in the informal settlement across the valley, that was playing very loud music into the small hours of the morning. On top of that we were woken up at 3.18am by our family members in the downstairs room, they had heard someone trying to force their way into their room, and then this person ran off into the night, we pushed the panic button to call for backup, but none arrived.
We were told on arrival that there was a 24 hour guard on duty, but not to worry as it is "very safe" we'll at least no one was hurt, next time we lock all the doors.
The cherry on the cake for me was the amount of general noise coming from both the very busy road through Franschoek and the constant whining of machinery all through the day from the surrounding farms, definitely not a quiet relaxing stay.

We appreciate you taking the time to post your comments on Trip advisor.

We are sad to hear that our Elizabeth Suite was not to your liking. Some of the endearing characteristics of Cape Dutch buildings over 200 years old are their lower than normal doors and yellowwood ceiling beams. While these architectural features add to the character of the property, we apologise for not pointing out the slightly lower doorways and angled beams, which, had we done so, may have prevented you from bumping your head.

We have not had any prior complaints about the comfort of the bed, and will look into the state of the mattress as a matter of urgency. Apologies for any discomfort experienced.

When you called me to complain about the loud music drifting across the valley, it was 21h30 last Saturday evening. I called the police to ask them to investigate where the music originated from, and they undertook to investigate. By 22h30 the music has stopped, and I did not call you to report back, as you had indicated that you had wanted an early night.

We do have a security guard on duty 24 hours a day and he patrols the property constantly. It is most unfortunate that someone may have been trying to gain access to one of the downstairs rooms and we have alerted our security firm to be more vigilant, especially at night. We are investigating the reason for the lack of response to the panic button. These units are checked regularly, but we have never in the past had cause to use one.

As regards your comment on the noise of the machinery, again, I apologise for this. It is relevant to note however that we are a working vineyard in an area populated with wineries, all of which are currently in the middle of the grape harvest. This sometimes necessitates work over weekends. Although there was no harvesting occurring on Basse Provence on this particular weekend, it is possible that our neighbour was busy with harvest.

We do hope that we can persuade you to visit us again in the future and assure you of our continued efforts to make our guests’ stay as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible.

Regards

Shani and staff.

A short one night visit to Franschhoek, but an excellent choice to rest our heads! Our room 'Gideon' was very comfortable with a lovely en-suite. Breakfast was first class and all the staff were charming. After leaving we tasted wines at Rickety Bridge - and bought! Stunning scenery all around!

Room Tip: Gideon was super, as was our friends room Paulina.

We had the featured room with its mosquito net which brought back memories of fighting my way out of bed to go for a pee!
Lovely spot just outside the village surrounded by vines. Pool a small one for cooling down rather than swimming.
A pity the do not give samplings of their wines in the rooms!

Room Tip: Ask for the end room

Many thanks for reviewing us on Tripadvisor. We always value comments from our guests.
We may not have “tastings” of our wines in the room but do, however, offer a bottle of one of our reds and one of our white wines, as part of the mini bar, in each room.
We hope to welcome you back one day.
Regards
Shani and Staff.

This B&B is about 2km out of town and a little away from Franschhoek’s restaurants and shops. Nevertheless, staff was always very helpful and offered to organize rides to wineries or restaurants in town so that we could enjoy a glass or two without caring about driving. The B&B is located in two old French-style houses with thatched roofs which are surrounded by a lovely garden with a pool and many possibilities to sit and relax. But the most impressive was our room: It was directly under the thatched roof and we felt like staying in a super-expensive hotel with open bathroom.

We stayed at Basse Provence during December 2013. It's a beautiful old farmhouse, with a traditional thatched roof, close to (but not within easy walking distance of) Franschhoek and its famous restaurants. Excellent views from the property, welcoming and friendly staff, good breakfast. Our room (room 2) was very attractive and well appointed - it had air conditioning, a mini-bar and a safe, but did not have an en suite bathroom. Instead a private bathroom with WC, shower and bath was provided a short distance away. Some other rooms were en suite. While this did not mar our stay, we recommend you check the room facilities when you book.

Room Tip: Check the facilities when you book as not all rooms are en suite.

Stayed in the Elizabeth suite - lovely room and surrounding property. Breakfast was fantastic and the views of the surrounding area was excellent. Also very lovely staff and conveniently close to the main city area.

This is the perfect kind of accommodation as most people spend the entire day exploring the Francschoek wine region and this is the perfect place to return to relax. Only criticism is that the window in the Elizabeth is very small, and therefore doesn't feature good views from the room itself.
