Tasting the wines around the Franschhoek will make you hungry.... our guide suggested we try La Petite Ferme (his original suggestion was closed - and I am glad it was!!).
The service was fantastic... The setting and the views were wonderful.... we ate outside!
I had the pâté for starters and the lamb special...and the chocolate mousse dessert... Wonderful all three.
I think the combination of the nice food and the beautiful setting and attentive service makes this a nice place for a lunch while touring about the Franschhoek...

It is a summer setting though. We were seated for lunch on the enclosed veranda of this rambling restaurant. It was cold and draughty, and with the door to the garden behind us, we had a constant flow of guests and children passing our table. We all had the Fillet with marrow bone and truffle mash. My meal was disappointing and tasted pre-made and then warmed and the mash lumpy. You would expect more for the premium prices charged. The desserts were lovely though, especially the Lemon and Poppy seed tart. Cappuccino was cold by the time it arrived at our table. The service was slow, although the staff are friendly and efficient. I would only recommend this restaurant in excellent summer weather when you can sit outside and enjoy the garden.

You can't beat the beautiful setting of this restaurant! The food is good - not phenomenal but tasty enough. It's a great place to take overseas visitors as the restaurant has a nice feel to it and it's in a beautiful part of the winelands. You can probably find similar or better places in CT when it comes to food, but in terms of the overall experience, it's very good.

We had a lunch here bad it was beautiful. The setting is stunning. I was expected a fine dining experience from what I had heard but it was like a very high quality and tasty Sunday lunch. Staff were excellent and the atmosphere was great. We both had the lamb which was delicious. Probably an even nicer place in the summer looking out the window.

There are so many good restaurants in the Cape and in Franschhoek itself, and if the others measure up to La Petite Ferme, then this region is a global culinary destination. You have to book for La Petite Ferme and if you're driving out from Cape Town, you can while away the morning by visiting the beautiful towns and vineyards along the way. The restaurant has a dreamy vista back down the valley and everything about the setting, the service and the food is class. The problem with reviews like this is that it raises expectations and inevitably some people are disappointed. So just go along and enjoy the experience and the food. And when they hand you the bill you'll think they've only charged you for the entree. That's one of the great things about eating out in South Africa: you can have a three-course top-line restaurant experience for the cost of a cafe meal back home in Australia.
