We had an awesome time in Franschhoek on a cold and wet weekend but luckily Bo Lamotte made us feel right at home with a fireplace and awesome service.

The units are equipped with electric blankets, which my wife loved.

Wood was supplied and the units are serviced everyday. They even pack the fireplace for you while you are out exploring the town and one of many wineries in the region.

We will definitely be back with friends and family and try to book out the whole place next.

Thanks

Jacques & Elli

We spent a night at Goose Cottage and it was absolutely wonderful. The cottage itself is decorated beautifully and there was everything we needed. The setting is exquisite, set between the Franschoek mountains on a working farm. The manager, Anneke, was so friendly and professional and made us feel at home from the second we arrived. It is great value for money. I would recommend these self catering cottages to all my friends as it was a wonderful experience.

One of the rare places one can recommend without any reservation.

The service is personal and very friendly. One feel at home from driving up from the entrance, the friendly reception, up to the picturesque Pear Cottage itself.

The cottages are spaced out and you are not aware of any other guests.

Bo La Motte is a working farm and the kids loved the boisterous dogs, hens and clattering tractor one occasionally saw.

Franschhoek accommodation can be very expensive, but this place is excellent value. It is a destination in itself.

We concurred that we should have spent our entire holiday at Bo La Motte.

If we visit Franscchoek again we will not consider any other accommodation.

Room Tip: We loved Pear Cottage

My brother booked several of the cottages at Bo La Motte for our first two nights in Franschhoek. We were mesmerized by the perfect views of the mountains and vines. We had a lovely cookout the night of our arrival, enjoying the patio area of one of the cottages and the nicely appointed kitchen. Our room in one of the 2-bedroom cottages (Milkwood) was absolutely wonderful with a big comfortable bed, pretty ceiling fan, bamboo ceiling, and large bureau. There are several sweet farm dogs that run around the property, and we enjoyed visiting with them. Would've been happy to spend many more nights in this beautiful cottage!

With a wonderful greeting from management and three sweet dogs, we stayed in a cute, comfortable and spotless cottage.

We stayed in the Orchard Cottage with three bedrooms with six beds (to be configured to your requests) three full bathrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen. The outdoor patio for dining w/ bbq and large back yard to view the stars and mountains made it an extremely peaceful stay.

Bathrooms appear to be newly remodeled and down comforters are just one of the nice unexpected touches throughout the cottage.

A great place to run in the morning - and just a quick mile to the town w/ nice shopping and places to dine.

Our group of five did not want to leave.

We booked at short notice and Lindi squeezed us into their annex for the night. Although she noted it was not quite up to their four star rating, it was still a very attractive, large, comfortable and well furnished unit - we would have loved to stay longer. Lindi was very helpful about things to see/vineyards to visit in our short stay. I would definitely recommend Bo La Motte to anyone, they are excellent value.

Room Tip: We stayed in the annex off the main house - beware, it is near the poultry area and there is an earl...

We stayed at the Milkwood Cottage which is located in the middle of vineyards, surrounded by a nice garden with lots of flowers, a very private feel to it and a great view towards the mountains. It is very quiet, no street noise at all. However, you are on a working farm where work starts at 7 am and where no consideration seems to be given to guests when scheduling work. Most irritating was the spraying of the plants which apparently takes place every 10 days precisely and started at 7 am one morning right in front of our cottage by use of an incredibly noisy compressor and with ample poison so it could settle on our night stand thanks to the wind direction.
Milkwood Cottage has a living area with two comfortable sofas in front of the satellite tv (and dvd player) and next to a fireplace. The kitchen area in the same room is fully equipped (with good size refrigerator and cooler unit, 4 plate electrical cooker and microwave) but maybe a bit cramped for elaborate cooking. There is also a table with 4 chairs. The cottage has a small bedroom with 2 single beds and a large bedroom with a double bed. For cold nights the beds have heating blankets. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a shower (very good water pressure) and the other one with a bathtub. Outside there is a terrace with a Weber grill, a table and 6 chairs and 2 sun chairs.
The cottage has no air con which can be an issue when the temperatures climb to 35C+, but the thick walls keep some of the cool air inside and if the windows are left open during the night that helps to further cool down the house. Also, many evenings there was a strong wind blowing through the valley which helped to cool down the cottage. Both bedrooms are equipped with fans. The car park is not shaded.
The cottage was serviced every day, towels and bed linen were changed out after 3 days. They did laundry per load.
At the office there is a small swimming pool with some sun chairs and the large dam just behind the office is also ok for swimming (brownish water though so you can’t see in what you swim). There are also little picnic areas under shady trees by the dam. Only downside: no toilets at the pool/dam area.
They sold wine and olive oil at the office as well as homemade soaps.
No internet is available at the cottage, but there is an internet cafe in Franschhoek and they let us use the pc at the office to quickly check emails. For non-African guests it might be important to note that there is no phone at the cottage.
Bo La Motte is about 15 min walk away from the village. At night it is very dark, so it is necessary to take a flash light (not provided at the cottage).
The people in the office were very happy to help us with all sorts of bookings and advice. Great steaks and pork ribs could be purchased at the little butchery at the Grillroom, Karoo lamb chops at a small place just behind the BP gas station. Best coffee in town was at a coffee place next to Reuben’s and great food stuff could be bought at the Food Lovers Market in Stellenbosch (the Pick n Pay in Franschhoek is a very sad place).

BoLa M, Manager at Bo La Motte Farm Cottages, responded to this review, 13 February 2013
Dear Guests

Thanks for your comments on Trip Advisor - it's always good to have feedback; without it we wouldn't know what to change/add/stop.

I would like to apologise for the spraying outside the cottage when the men started work for the day. Our normal tractor driver was unfortunately in hospital at the time and the new driver misunderstood the normal procedure – while we do need to start early on the few days that we need to spray, we usually start away from the cottages early in the mornings. The sprays, however, are not toxic, as we use natural products on the farm, and are therefore not harmful to guests - though I appreciate without knowing this, it could be worrying. Again, apologies, and I assure you, when you come back at Christmas this year, this will not be the case.

As the SA internet market has recently opened up we are currently investigating getting wifi for the cottages and hopefully by the time you return this will be available! In the meantime, guests are welcome to use the office computer to check emails. We are also happy for guests to make local calls from our office phone, although we find that most people carry mobiles with activated roaming, or purchase a local sim card, should they require a phone.

Thanks you for your thoughts regarding torches. At present we provide candles and gas lamps for potential power outages in the cottages, but we are currently looking at solar alternatives. If these don't work, then torches could be the way to go forward.

We look forward to seeing you again at Christmas time.

Kind regards

The Bo La Motte team
