Description: The historical estate of Allée Bleue is nestled at the foot of the majestic Drakenstein Mountains in the Franschhoek Valley. Allée Bleue is known to be one of the oldest yet most characteristic farms in the Cape, producing internationally award winning wines. Our offering on the estate includes boutique accommodation and a Bistro that offers an appetizing menu with old classics and newly created herb inspired dishes. Seasonal picnics are very popular under our great oak tree. Allée Bleue is the ideal location to host stylish weddings, trendsetting events and family celebrations.

Our immediate family, who seldom all gettogether at the same time, decided to have brunch prior to two members having to return to Johannesburg after our husband/mother/grandmother's funeral the previous day. The booking was made on a very cold winters' day with heavy snow having fallen on the Franschhoek Mountains previously. We were met with wonderful smiles, and on our request were accommodated outside on the terrace of the bistro.Soon both the Allee Bleue Pinotage and the meal were served. The food was delicious paired with the superior wine of the estate. We were not disappointed and have only positive complements for the waiters, manager and chef.

Went for wine tasting with friends; one a chef from Sweden who was very interested in buying wine to take back to Sweden. On arrival, told by staff member that we all had to select the same wine to taste since we were 6 in our party. We heavily objected to this; feeling like we were being disrespected. We are all serious food and wine lovers who came for a professional tasting experience with the objective to buy wine. Also, there was only one other (German tour) party in the tasting room at that point, therefore, not busy. We went ahead with the tasting, but insisted that we all want to taste our own choice. To the staff member's credit, this was allowed. However, it left a bitter taste in the mouth and given all the wine estates in the area where we live, Allee Bleue is no longer on our wine tasting list.

Booked for a 'Chicnic' for 9 for Mother's Day, including one vegetarian basket. We were looking forward to something special.
- As it turned out only 8 meals were provided (7 meals and a vegetarian portion) and not the 9 meals as requested.
- We had to request that the 9th meal be delivered to our table. When it did come it arrived without bread, pate platter or fruit salad. We had to request these separately and they eventually arrived
- The vegetarian picnic was a disappointment. No effort had gone into this basket and it arrived with a prawn cocktail and a smoked snoek pate - which are clearly not vegetarian. It appeared that all that had been done to make this a 'vegetarian basket' was to remove the meat from the existing basket
- The main baskets were average in their content. One definitely did not get the feeling that they were special or in any way particularly 'chique' - which I would have expected given that the web described this as a 'Chicnic rather than a Picnic' because it is so special. I was left with the feeling that the experience in no way lived up to the promise.

Sadly I would not now recommend the Allee Bleue Chicnic to my friends - which is a pity, don't you think?
Having said all of the above I must say the staff themselves were cheerful and helpful, so that was one 'plus point' for the day.

I have been meaning to write a review but time passes and one forgets, one of my favourite wine estates Allee Bleue tucked away near Franschhoek. The service is fantastic and the wine tasting a very good experience. The quality and presentation of the food is 5 star. They are family friendly which i dont pick up at most wine estates so for any parent this is a relief. I will return once again.

I have recently took it upon my self to visit the winelands. First stop Allee Bleue, when entering one is greeted by friendly staff and shown to either the Bistro or wine tasting. We went for a light lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the amazing service and first of all the food.
I would recommend the Lambshank while my wife had the Duck and Watermelon Salad a strange but well thought out dish.

Job well done
