La Galiniere Guest Cottages
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 4 February 2011

We only had a one night stay, arriving after five in the afternoon and leaving early the next morning but the cottage was clean, comfortable and contained everything we needed (including a complementary bottle of wine). The owner had previously contacted the local tourist agent on our behalf to organise a horse riding tour of two of the local vineyards (which was excellent fun). Even the dogs visited us to make sure we had settled in.
The cottages are very close to La Grande Provence vineyard which has very good wine (mind you everywhere seemed to serve very good wine) and an exceptional restuarant.
Whilst it is not as grand as some of the other accommodation in the area, it was less than half the price of many places we did look at and La Galiniere was the best value accommodation we had in our two week stay in the cape by some considerable margin and I would stay there again, but for more than one night.

A very clean spacious cottage about 15 mins walk from the village centre, secure parking right outside, lovely views, use of a braai available on request and wood provided, a complimentary bottle of their own wine was a very nice touch, plenty of outside space to relax.
Hot water was a bit erratic - a cold shower one morning! Could do with a better sign on the road - we had looked on google map so knew roughly where it was - otherwise would have been quite hard to find.
Overall, a great place to stay - excellent value and ideal location.

We had a very pleasant 2 night stay. The house and surrounds arewell appointed and the Safferies extremely accommodating..... thanks for allowing the children to pick fresh veggies from the garden!

We'll be back.

The owner, Alan, could not be more helpful and friendly. We were in the "cottage" attached to the main house, which was very inexpensive for four rooms and a full kitchen. We were next door to a major winery and an excellent Italian restaurant that Alan recommended. The grounds are beautiful.
I would definitely stay again. We did not find a better place for this price in all of the southern South Africa.

Very nice place with friendly reception. You'll need a car to get into the city centre though, but as most travellers take a rental car to explore the Cape Provinces, that should not be an issue.

Very beautiful place on a small wine estate. Three friendly dogs welcomes you at the gate. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit which was very spacious and everything you need to be comfortable for a long stay.

We loved the farm atmosphere, gorgeous decorations (esp the mounted photographs), luxurious fittings and bedding, beautiful finishes and friendly hospitality. The fully equipped kitchen was a bonus.
