“Consistently brilliant!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014 via mobile

We visit Franschhoek bi- monthly. We do believe this magnificent eatery is in the top 2 in the Western cape. And in the Top 3 countrywide. Ryan is an adventurer in food. His delights are exceptional . I really do rate him in the top 3 chefs in SA. He brings unusual, brilliant combinations to light. Try it- you won't be disappointed.

“A must if you not only like to eat well, but like to cook.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

We reserved months ago and asked for a table with a good view of the open kitchen and we right really next to it. It's just amazing to watch Ryan and his staff prepare and decorate every plate to perfection. Also there is no noise coming from the kitchen, which really surprised us. Everything is done quickly but calmly.
Ryan is really like a chef d'orchestre who oversees everything: with just a look or a finger raised something happens and he even sees that table x needs more wine.
The menu is not huge (3 cold starters, 2 hot starters, 3 mains and 3 deserts), but there is something for everyone. Cold and/or hot starters all good. Try the spingbok or the pork belly as a main and hope you have room for desert. You can also take the 4, 5 or 6 course chef's selection and be surprised.
A must if you not only like to eat well, but like to cook.

“Food a little over experimental”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014 via mobile

We had dinner here on a hot April evening. Beef was very good but the fish special was insubstantial and disappointing and the dessert overly experimental. Maybe we just hit a bad night, but we'd not rush back.

“No children's menu”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2014

Went here this evening and the venue, kitchen and food looked fantastic. Two huge problems, firstly no children's menu and secondly when asked the waiter and then the manager stated that the chef couldn't even provide a simple pasta dish as "they had no pasta". What a shame..

“Great Food Pity About The Service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2014 via mobile

We ate dinner in January and were impressed with the food and ingredients - HOWEVER - the attitude of the female Maitre'D left so much to be desired - we were seated outside for an aperitif when she arrived with a dour face and really did have to work hard to gain her attention. Nothing changed when we moved inside for dinner - the table staff were fine. The kitchen is open plan, so one would expect some 'theatre' from the chef's brigade - not a chance - the same dour/scowling unwelcoming attitude, presumably emanating from chef himself. When it came to payment I gained the impression that we really were on the wrong side of the card machine and left feeling very disappointed despite the good food.

Perhaps a bad evening for the staff, but I think not as the dour attitude permeated all apart from our waitress.
