Rose Cottages

Lovely Rose Cottages are situated in a very quiet, convenient (wineries, shops, galleries and restaurants less than 5 minutes by car) and beautiful corner of Franschhoek at Verdun Farm. Booking is quick, easy. There are many good reasons to choose this comfortable accommodation and the simple 45-50 minute journey from airport makes this a perfect first or last stop on itinery. We enjoyed every minute of our 5 night stay at "The Cottage" which as a previous reviewer points out, is a spacious wing of the main manor style property. There´s convenient secure parking. Access is private and discrete. Beautiful terraces face the vineyards with gorgeous views towards the mountains. Terraces are furnished with sun loungers, table and chairs and there´s some shade. There´s an overflow rim pool for hot summer days and a convenient area for braais. The garden is lovely and visited by many birds and butterflies. The airy lounge is comfortably furnished and the kitchen more than adequately equipped for preparing breakfast and simple meals. There are so many very good restaurants in and around Franschhoek that I can´t imagine using this too often! There´s a small shower room + loo off the kitchen. The bedroom is very spacious with plenty of hanging space (thought few additional coathangers would be good) and shelves. There´s a small safe. The en suite bathroom is very spacious and has a great shower. The bath is huge!!! The Cottage is serviced daily and kept ship shape and spotlessly clean by the very efficient staff. We loved virtually everything at The Cottage, which really does offer tremendously good value for money, but the most of all we appreciated the kindness and hospitality offered by the charming hostess. This is a wonderful home from home and we´ve already booked our next visit....very many thanks Joan, you´re doing everything right.

We stayed two nights in The Cottage, which is in fact one discrete part of the main building. The views from the verandah over the vineyards to the mountains are stupendous. We struggled to tear ourselves away from the sun loungers. Good spacious accommodation, adequately furnished and equipped. Excellent value for money. An easy 4 minute drive from Franshoek. Would have no hesitation in recommending.

Our South-African/Finnish family stayed at The Stables. A beautiful scenery to the mountains, cottage located between the wines. Very peaceful, quiet and private but still only a stone throw away from Franschhoek centre, and the wineries. The cottage itself is beautiful, one open plan livingroom kitchen and two en-suite bedrooms (one with double and the other with two single beds). Both bedrooms have own entrance to outside as well. Outside is braai and splash pool. Everything nice and very clean. Joan and her team are very helpful and welcoming.

Bonuses: Braai/firewood ready when arriving, and added daily. Bottles of local wine available at the cottage (small extra charge). Joan arranged us a baby cot to use for the stay. Lots of local info available at the cottage.

Small negatives: Entering and existing the splash pool is challenging. The beautiful horse farm right at the back of The Stables cottage also comes with flies.

We loved the stay, would love to go back!

We enjoyed 4 nights with friends in 'The Stables' towards the end of our holiday in SA. The cottage is private within a stunning setting amongst the vines below the surrounding mountains. Our en suite bedroom had a very comfortable bed although the decoration was a little tired. The open plan sitting room/kitchen is spacious although as a self-catering unit was lacking some of the basic kitchen equipment.

Travel Exclusively African organised our 5 week self drive tour through the Western Cape and Rose Cottages was an excellent example of the quality of the entire experience. Rose Cottages have 3 properties and we stayed at "The Vineyard". The setting is absolutely wonderful overlooking the vines and mountains with a stud farm next door. Total peace and Tranquility. The accommodation was for 5 people although only the 2 of us stayed here. Everywhere was spotless, comfortable, well equipped and had absolutely everything you could possibly need. Franschhoek itself which is a 5 minute drive away is well known for the quality of restaurants and we did try a number of these with Bom Vivant being our favourite in town. We also sampled a Japanese lunch at Okamai on the Glenwood Vineyard which was excellent. Joan is on hand at Rose Cottages for any assistance needed and it was a pleasure to meet her. We would definitely return here

Our family group spent four nights at The Stables.
It is not modern luxury but it is very comfortable, clean and private.
It is also very good value.
The outside space is not the greatest, although the views are spectacular. The outside furniture could do with an update.
We missed Wi-Fi.

Rose Cottages features three options for accommodation and we chose The Cottage – a spacious, self-contained, well, cottage with self-catering facilities, a big bath and shower and great views from the verandah. It was also good value for money and the service was great. I'd definitely stay here again.
