Gooding's Groves Olive Farm & Guest House
Ranked #25 of 64 Franschhoek B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 25 November 2012

We stayed at Gooding's Grove farm on one of the upper rooms. the views of the valley is excellent, and even though we were facing the road we could not hear it at all. You are overlooking the olive trees - and by the way, the Olives are delicious and so is the breakfast! Mareaze is a great host, she will help you with all your needs, and additionally you can explore the surroundings with their bikes.

Room Tip: we preferred the upper rooms, tip : try the olives!

We were fortunate to stumble upon this haven whilst researching a trip from the England. The location was excellent, the accommodation good, the food good with warm and friendly staff. The pool was also a very welcome way to ease the heat of the sun!! My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay and will return.

Room Tip: Anywhere, great views from windows

What an amazing Guest House. All is so beautiful and attention to detail is perfect. We have returned to this Guest House twice and am sure to return again ! The rooms are well appointed and heated for the cold winter nights. The Lounge has a fireplace which is so welcoming and the perfect place to sip on a glass of sherry ! The staff is fantastic - the grounds are well kept as well as the buildings. On the second visit it was my boyfriends birthday - WOW ! Mareaze Stead, the Manager went all the way to make it a memorable morning for him and us. Beautiful set breakfast table , the most delicious chocolate cake and a scrumptious breakfast!! You have to try the omelet, can really recommend it ! Thank you for the bottle of Bubbly from the House! The Guest House is a short distance out of the village, Franschhoek. If you are looking for tranquility, style and comfort, you are sure to find it here !! I just love this place and will return soon !

Room Tip: I enjoyed the downstairs room but all rooms are beautiful !

We were immediately made to feel welcome when we arrived after a long car journey. drinks and nibbles were laid out for us. the kids headed off to the pool whilst the adults unpacked. the rooms were immaculate with stunning views.
we took 2 rooms, each with 2 adults and one child. very comfortable and good nights sleep. only slight hick up was that hot water seemed to be scarce for morning showers.
We were given some of the lovely olives and olive oil to bring back, nice little touches made this special, without the 'in your face' service you often get.
this is a great place to base yourself to explore the local area. Couples, Family will feel comfortable.
Breakfast was plentiful, staff went out of their way to help.
highly recommended!

We stayed for 2 nights at Gooding's Grove Olive Farm. We have 2 small children and stayed in the 2 bedroom villa. I was totally blown away when we walked in. The decor is very rustic/ french provencal. Free standing kitchen, with sitting room stacked with books and magazines, and TV area separated.
The rooms at the main house were very nice too. There is a lovely garden and small pool. There are bikes that you can borrow also.
The setting of Gooding's Grove is just beautiful. It is along the main road where all of the vineyards are and 5 mins from the village. It is a great place to just wander in and out of the wineries, and polo and golf club only 20 mins away. Lots of great restaurants all very close. The mountains are your backdrop.
Mareaze, who looks after Goodings Grove is a lovely warm, special lady, and sent down fresh baked muffins for our boys in the morning, although we were self catering.
We travel a lot, and can honestly say we fell in love with this place. Just felt so homely and peaceful. It is not 5 star flash and new, but definitely 5 star tasteful and laid back.
The only thing that I would have changed, was that we had stayed there for our whole week instead of going into Camps Bay. The village of Franschhoek is fantastic too. We have just booked to go back for a week in November, as so much to do in this area. Kids loved it too!

Room Tip: For families either stay in the 2 bedroom villa, or they have a room with 2 double beds in the main...

After coming from a guesthouse with not much service or personal touch, this place was a total change for the good! The location is just beautiful, our rooms were immaculate with a nice view over the farm and surrounding mountains. We were welcomed by Mareaze (such a lovely host) with coffee & tea and some nice scones. Then we could use the bikes to explore the lovely village and the wineries around the farm of which La Motte did impress us the most! As we liked the guesthouse, we decided to return early and spend some time at the pool watching the sun go down with a complimentary glass of nice wine and some olives. That really made our day! Mareaze did organize a restaurant for us in the evening including a pick up and drop off which was great as we could both drink. The breakfast was just amazing; so much choice and you should really try the fluffy omelette as that was just divine. We were sad to leave already after only one night and we definitly would have stayed longer if we could have! We have already recommended this place to friends who are going to South Africa next week and will keep on recommending this place to anyone we talk to!

Fell in love with Goodings! Such a relaxing and homely guesthouse. Located just outside the village. Perfect base for all the vineyards and lovely views of mountains. Our room was stylish and airy. Mareaze is a lovely host, helpful and very friendly, will be recommending to friends for their honeymoon - jealous I can't go with them!
