Review of Franschhoek Pass

Unfortunately there are some roadworks going on at the time when we were there, causing us to wait about 10 minutes each time, but the drive is worth it. Beautiful view of the Franschhoek valley and once over the top you almost notice the change in vegetation straight away. Quite amazing.

Although we were caught in traffic, it was well worth the wait as we encountered a troop of Baboons. What a thrill. At the top there is an opportunity to stop and the lookout and view the valley. Very easy drive.

I have crossed the Franschhoek Valley many times and always take a deep intake of breath at the views down into the valley.
It is well worth taking this route into or out of Franschhoek. Just watch out for the baboons!

Views don't come much more lovely, looking down on Franshhoek from on high. It is a detour must and is enjoyed by serious motorcyclists for the challenging bends. Unfortunately they don't all make the turns in time. However, on some sundays it is the route of choice for classic car drivers and spotting beautiful cars from every era and country is a good distraction. The pass itself offers wild baboons, fine and tall eucalyptus trees, fynbos, and seasonal wild flowers. Stop to take photos to make friends envious.
