Review of Franschhoek Pass

The Franschoek Pass was a great way to see the Franschoek Valley & to get great views of the stunning scenery that is all around Franschoek. An added photo opportunity was also provided by the Baboons wandering along the roadside. It is so tempting to wind down the window for a better shot, but we didn't, as we have heard that they can get quite aggressive, especially if they are after food.
Our way up the Pass was clear and we had great views, but a change in the weather meant that our return journey was quite scary with very limited visibility. This is not so good when dealing with unfamiliar roads, hairpin turns & meandering Baboons, but I would highly recommend that all visitors to Franschoek take a trip up the Franschoek Pass , as it is a great way to get a feel for the area.

I drove the pass out of Franschhoek on a lovely spring day. The scenery was fabulous and the view over the Franschhoek Valley left me with a nice memory of my time spent there. The entire mountainous road towards the junction of R321 provided many incredible scenes including viewpoints that allowed one to look into a gorge with waterfalls and a flowing river below depending upon on how far one travels.

The pass coming from the Villiersdorp side is truly spectacular particularly as one first sees the whole Franschhoek Vally opening out below.

We were travelling from Cape Town to Franschhoek and it takes you along the R45. You know you are approaching Franschhoek when you see the unmistakeable mountain range and when you get over the pass and see Franschhoek Valley - JUST WOW.

We drove up onto the pass every night to see if we could get a fantastic sunset and we did see some great ones but the best one was when we were in the town and sadly not on the pass.

There is a place to park your car and some of the locals take along a picnic hoping for a sunset buyt the view is spectacular on a sunny day

13km's of pure beauty, even in a car. We travelled on this pass with a view to riding it on our motorbikes and I cannot wait to get there and do it. What amazing scenery! Good quality road, with some construction underway which delays you a bit, but obvious that they maintain this road as there are no potholes in sight. I wouldn't like to do it at night though...
