We stayed overnight at Stony Brook as I was looking for a calm and serene place to spend the night with my husband to celebrate my 40th birthday with my husband, while taking in the culinary delights (The Tasting Room!) that Franschoek offers.
From the lovely drive on the tree-lined road, passing the beautiful Arabian horses, to the rustic little stone bridge crossing to arrive at our destination, Stony Brook met expectations from the start.
Unfortunately as this was a mid-week we arrived early evening so did not get to meet the hosts. But hte key was arranged and ready exactly as the email stated.
We then went in to our room, which was simple but welcoming. We had a quick pre-diiner foray up to the newly created dam, and listened to a troop of baboons calling to one another, over the sound of birdsong and the burbling river as it ran over the rocks (the stony brook of the name)
The bed and the soft pillows were welcoming and inviting after our night of gastronomic bliss, and we left the next morning feeling relaxed and refreshed while getting a final sniff of the fresh farm air and wet pine needle scent lingering in our minds.More
