“Comfortable and simple”

5 cottages situated behind the wine estate, just below the mountains, along a little stream, in a very quiet area - just the place to unwind.

We stayed in number 3 - the middle cottage, and it has all you need - a simple kitchen with basics to cater for yourself (but why bother, given the good restaurants 10 minutes drive away in Franschhoek), a very nice huge bed, a small dining table, a comfortable couch, shower and little else (no TV, yay!) - the perfect place to do very little in. With its close location it is excellent to explore the area, yet allowing you to escape the tourist hordes when you've had enough. Stony Brook is still one of my favourite wine estates, so going for a tasting is a must, and the service, especially if Joy is there, always superb.

Room Tip: Number 3 was great - a small parking area right next to the cottage, and a huge double bed (one of t...

We stayed overnight at Stony Brook as I was looking for a calm and serene place to spend the night with my husband to celebrate my 40th birthday with my husband, while taking in the culinary delights (The Tasting Room!) that Franschoek offers.
From the lovely drive on the tree-lined road, passing the beautiful Arabian horses, to the rustic little stone bridge crossing to arrive at our destination, Stony Brook met expectations from the start.
Unfortunately as this was a mid-week we arrived early evening so did not get to meet the hosts. But hte key was arranged and ready exactly as the email stated.
We then went in to our room, which was simple but welcoming. We had a quick pre-diiner foray up to the newly created dam, and listened to a troop of baboons calling to one another, over the sound of birdsong and the burbling river as it ran over the rocks (the stony brook of the name)
The bed and the soft pillows were welcoming and inviting after our night of gastronomic bliss, and we left the next morning feeling relaxed and refreshed while getting a final sniff of the fresh farm air and wet pine needle scent lingering in our minds.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked lovely and all face the river.

We had a wonderful stay at Stony brook and I would highly recommend it to anyone passing by Franschhoek. Joy is the sweetest of hosts! The setting is just magnificent with the backdrop of the mountains! Make sure to do a wine tasting of their superb white and red wines!

Our stay at Stony Brook was great from the moment we arrived. We were greeted with a lovely glass of Sauvignon Blanc and two very nice Dogs. Joy & Family were very helpful throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble. The cottages were comfortable & clean and provided all we needed for our stay. The pool was very peaceful and great to cool off on a hot day.

The location of Stony Brook is perfect taking just 5 minutes to drive into town. If you like eating out you must speak to Joy as she recommended some great restaurants including Ryan's Kitchen & Cafe Des Arts.

Thanks for making our last 4 nights in SA so enjoyable despite the rain.

Hope to see you in the future.

Ian

Room Tip: Cottage 1 is very nice with great views and parking

We are very fond of Stoney Brooke wine and was very pleased to learn that they now have cottages to rent as well.

We stayed over the long weekend and enjoyed it very much.

The cottages are well equiped and very neat and tidy.We would have loved to make use of the fire place but then had fantastic weather!!

We will surely be back as the value for money, the setting and the tranquillity is well worth it.

Thanks Nigel and Joy.

I was recently staying in wine country for a wedding and Stonybrook was recommended as one of the guest venues. I am so glad that it was! The area around the cottages is lovely...very hilly and quite different looking than the more flat land where my friends were staying. There's also a hike behind to a beautiful reservoir. It's close enough to downtown Franschhoek to go for a nice dinner or shopping, but it's far enough that you feel like you're out in the country. The accommodations themselves were great and very affordable. They are each outfitted with the essentials, plus a fully stocked kitchen and several braii stands (we used them, they were great).

I would advise using the GPS coordinate feature to find the place, and once you do, you'll be happy to stay!

Highly recommended and definitely will go back. We, family of 5 (4 adults and 1 child) stayed at Stony Brook Cottages the last week of Dec 2013 to the first week of Jan 2014. The cottages are set right at the foot of the mountain, very neat and spacious and the interior design is fantastic. From time of booking, Joy stayed in touch with us and I am pleased to say both her and Nigel, their staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The beds are very comfortable and big in both cottages that we occupied and big and none of us ours. Oh and the bathrooms and showers are spacious and luxurious. The wines are great - must have/purchase. Stony Brook is one of the best self-catering venues. Definitely value for money. i loved everything about Stony Brook. Joy, Nigel and team - fantastic job. you will definitely see us again. No TV and radio - heaven.

Room Tip: There is no fitness centre and children activities but the walks and swimming pool served the purpo...
