“My happy place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2013

If you would like 1) superb comfort, 2) genuine hospitality and warmth, 3) a superb location and 4) the tastiest breakfast imaginable then look no further!

We have stayed at Fransvleit twice now and cannot recommend this wonderful guest house enough. This is as good- as- it- gets in my mind. The quality of the fittings in the rooms is undeniable, the bed is so sumptuous you may never want to get out, the shower is perfectly powerful and the bath is big enough for two! What's more, ex Chef and Fransvliet owner Shirley and manager Victor cannot do enough for you- fresh and exquisite breakfasts, personal recommendations, exclusive bookings, sourcing specific bottles of wine/ bubbles, ice mint water by the pool...etc etc.

We became so attached to Fransvliet and Shirley that we decided to invite her and gorgeous husband Joe to our wedding which was taking place 3 months after our 2nd visit at a local vineyard!! It was a natural choice to put our nearest and dearest in Fransvliet for the days before and after our wedding- needless to say our guests loved it as much as we did!

You leave with a feeling of utter contentment. We are planning our next stay!!!

Fransvliet is the most beautiful B&B with absolutely welcoming service! Every detail has been catered for and the rooms are stunning - exactly as photographed. Comfort has been their priority with all the extra luxuries that make it a place you just don't want to leave - Nespresso machines in the rooms, heated floor and towel rails in the bathrooms, a lovely fireplace (not that we found it cold, but it's a great atmosphere), high quality bathroom products and so on. The standard is far better than that of the major 4/5 star hotels I've stayed in around the world, but in a more personal environment and surrounded by vineyards and a beautiful garden just next to the rooms.

The breakfast was a fantastic experience (different every day), as was the opportunity to chat with Shirley, Victor, Vicky and the rest of the team. They ask you about your plans for the day and whether they can help with any suggestions. We took their advice on a number of occasions and were always impressed! This is a great way to interact with guests which I've never experienced before. You never feel like you need to go to them to ask all your questions, as they have already come to engage with you. We stayed for five days and this became a family-like routine in the mornings.

Make sure that you stop here if you plan on visiting the winelands! I'm hoping to return with some of my friends if I get the chance - it's charming!

The Fransvliet guesthouse made our trip to Fransschoek. The rooms are of a very high standard with wood burning stoves and everything you need. The breakfasts Shirley provides are "to die for" - not your "typical breakfast" at all. We can't recommend this place too highly. The restaurant next door (La Maison) is Michelin star standard.

Room Tip: They are all good!

Our review is a little overdue - we stayed here in early June, which, by the way, is a great time to visit the winelands. The crowds have all gone but the weather is beautiful and the prices drop.

We happened on Fransvliet and had the pleasure of meeting Victor who was a wonderful host. The rooms and the setting are beautiful, very comfortable and quiet yet right on the main road a few minutes from town. The breakfasts here were incredible - best we had in South Africa, which is saying something because this country knows its way around food.

We would not stay anywhere else on our next visit to the winelands!!

If you want to visit the famous Wine region of South Africa, stay at thus B&B!
It has the luxury and convenience of s superdeluxe hotel, excellent breakfast, but still very intimate and personal. It is in the immediate vicinity of the best Vineyards and Wine estates on the Cape!
It is conveniently near located to franschhoek's "citycenter"', near to Schellenbosch.
Shirley, the owner, gives you excellent afvice and information on everything you need tto know of that region, help you plan your days, gives you ideas of what to do, knows the best places to eat, taste wine, make trips to, and makes you an excellent dinner to boot if you plan to stay at 'home'!
The rooms have a small fireplace, which makes it very cosy indeed when the weather is a bit chilly, the fridge is overly well-stocked, the bathroom luxurious and spacious.
In front of the rooms are small verandas with views towards the mountains, vineyards and a beautiful garden,
We loved our stay there and plan to come back for a longer stay, not justt two days!!

Room Tip: Ours was one of the rooms in front, called CABERNET. It was a wonderful room!!

We had a wonderful time at Fransvliet on our honeymoon. The rooms were beautiful, with gorgeous views of the vineyard and garden. We had a bit of rain, so it was very cozy to sit by the fireplace. The fabulous breakfasts were the best of our trip ... my husband thought the eggs were the best he'd ever had. Everyone who worked at Fransvliet was friendly and helpful, and we liked being a bit removed from town. My only complaint was that it was strange facing the main road, but the room was still very quiet.

After stopping by several inn's in town and finding them either too expensive, too quaint or too rustic we looked up Fransvliet online and thought the pictures looked nice so we decided to check it out. We stopped in last minute and were able to grab the last room. The accommodations were just what my friend and I were looking for and something that you'd find at a top resort in Napa or Sonoma like the Carneros Inn for a fraction of the price!

The rooms were clean and modern but with warm touch I'd call cottage chic. We had our own fireplace, a lovely sitting area, plenty of drinks and snacks to choose from, a spa-like bathroom and a view overlooking the vine landscaped countryside that was breathtaking.

The innkeeper Shirley along with the other staff could not have been friendlier. She gave us great restaurant recommendations and set us up at a lovely spa the next day. The breakfast they made was out of this world and they made a fresh squeezed juice of pineapple, lemon and ginger that was to die for.

I'd go back in a second with friends or a significant other!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Fransvliet Guest House is a tranquil, luxury retreat, only 4 kilometres from the heart of Franschhoek. It is situated on a working farm, growing grapes, olives and figs. Wake up to the call of the birds and in the evening perhaps hear the resident owls calling as they contemplate the night's hunt. Breathtaking mountain views are all around, each one more spectacular than the last. The individually decorated suites are pure luxury, with absolute attention to detail. Soft wineland colours set the tone for a perfect stay. Breakfast is an occasion, every day. Spend time in the newly renovated 65 year old house, either inside or on the veranda, enjoying the view of the pool and the vineyards. Celebrate "the best meal of the day" with either a Continental or a full breakfast that will include seasonal specials. The sparkling pool is at your disposal for those hot lazy afternoons. Relax in the shade with a magazine and an ice cold drink, before you cool off. Lazy winter days are a treat too. Snuggle up in your suite in a comfy armchair with your own personal fireplace - the perfect way to enjoy one of the local bottles of red wine. Meander through the garden, (both indigenous and other) on your way to your suite. Something special will be flowering at all times. In season, luscious figs will be found on the trees, and the scent of lemons may be in the air too. Take an early morning walk around the farm in December. The vines will be green and laden with fruit. In July, a few burgundy coloured leaves and bare sticks have their own attraction. Soak up the 360° view, especially the powerful Simonsberg mountains. ... more   less
