“Friendly 5 star boutique hotel in fabulous setting”
Reviewed 11 May 2014 via mobile

Luxury friendly and very spacious in an idyllic location without being too glitzy or pretentious. The rooms are well designed suites set in an attractive separate block. You can pay a lot more for a lot less. Do you really want your own plunge pool the size of a bath for twice the price when this place has a fantastic pool you share with 5 other rooms and generally have to yourself! Shirley Victor and the team will make you feel at home with very attentive personal service. They cannot do enough for you. Amazing breakfasts with fresh produce from their own working farm! Tips and recommendations were all spot on and we found delightful places we would never of located ourselves. We cannot recommend this place highly enough and it is excellent value for money. It is a mile or so outside the centre of Franschhoek but everyone has a car and taxis are not a problem. Surrounded by good winery's within staggering distance eg La Motte. We will be back.

We spent three nights recently at Fransvliet Guest House.

Fransvliet is a super guest house set in a fantastic area just outside Franschoek (on the way to Stellenbosch). it is an ideal base if you are looking to explore the winelands as it is close to the main road.

From all parts of the guest house you have a magnificent view of the mountains. There are olive trees and a vineyard on the other side of the guest house which just lend to the magic of the setting.

Each of the 5 rooms are beautifully decorated and very spacious. The bed is extremely comfortable with good quality crisp linen. Each room has its own Nespresso machine with a range of pods, together with a well-stocked mini-bar and a few other little treats. They also have "proper" hairdriers in each room, which is such a treat compared to the usual tiny toy hairdriers which are usually surprised.

The bathrooms are huge with a bath and a shower, and lovely soft white towels (on heated towel rails).

Shirley and Victor leave nothing unattended to. Each morning, the breakfasts which are offered are superb. A good selection of cheeses, cold meats, preserves, yoghurt, fruit, freshly pressed juices and pastries are available. They also do a hot breakfast every day of your choice, although the "special" which they recommend is always a winner. We asked for rye bread one morning, which they had run out of. But, within 5 minutes, Victor had dashed off to the closest bakery and brought a fresh loaf back.

Fransvliet also sells their own olive oil and preserves, made from the fruits of their farm. Well worth purchasing!

I would highly recommend Fransvliet as somewhere to stay when you are in Franschoek.

Room Tip: If you would like a quieter room, opt fo the Shiraz room at the back of the guest house.

We stayed here March 2014 and the guest house has a good reputation. Room is beautiful, and well maintained, toiletries in the room were lovely and they even offer insect repellent - which was effective.
Television just has a few channels but it's not a holiday for staying in your room watching TV. There is a pool near the breakfast area. Breakfast is nice and Victor and the team are particularly lovely, with fresh juice concoctions and a special of the day is usually served - fresh ingredients generally sourced locally.
There were some soft cookies in the room, which I thought would be a daily treat. Coffee in the room is at an additional charge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front, or if you want peace and quiet but without the mountain view say as the...

Thank you for taking the time to review Fransvliet. . I am sad that your "Stars" did not reflect your written comments. I do need to comment briefly. On our Complimentary tray we have a small packet of homemade biscuits and 2 large luxury Nougats - these are a welcome item and are not replenished. We supply 2 Nespresso Capsules and fresh milk per day on that tray. We only charge for capsules over and above those.

This was my second visit to Fransvliet, this time with my family. Everything was just as I remembered it, although the beautiful weather meant we could lay around the pool.
The rooms are beautifully appointed. Excellent quality beds with fabulous linens. A separate seating area to relax and outdoor seating, which I made use of every morning.
There is also a separate dressing area with a fridge and tea/coffee facilities. This is also a great place to hide your suitcases.
The bathrooms are huge with a separate shower, beautiful stand alone bath and luxurious toiletries.
Nothing is forgotten at Fransvliet, which is what makes it such a perfect place.
The breakfast is one of the best I've ever had, fruit salad with some fruits from the garden, the juice of the day, freshly made with seasonal fruits. A cooked option is available, which is always a little bit different and shows Shirley's flair of cooking.
I also have to say a special thanks to Shirley and her team, they are the icing on the cake at Fransvliet (I mustn't forget the dogs either! They also make you feel very welcome....)
I know I will be back at Fransvliet very soon

We stayed at Fransvliet for a week in March and couldn't have been happier with our choice of B&B.

Shirley is a brilliant host and every morning will give you ideas about where to go and what to do. She recommended many vineyards for us to visit and also restaurants to eat in. Shirley will also book the restaurants for you.

The guest house itself is stunning - we stayed in 'Chenin' which was beautiful (I think all the rooms are pretty much identical). There was a large bed, lounge area, double wardrobe and huge bathroom.
The rooms are immaculate and beautifully furnished.

Breakfast at Fransvliet is huge - buffet of yogurt, cheese, fruit plus a platter of bread and pastries is brought to your table. You can then order a hot breakfast. Shirley has specials of the day which included when we were there poached eggs, smoked salmon and figs wrapped in parma ham.

The guest house is a couple of km's outside of Franschhoek. Too far to walk but an easy drive. There is a great restaurant on the other side of the road - La Motte which we would highly recommend.

We would 100% return to Fransvliet and hope to next year!

Room Tip: There are 5 rooms -4 are in a row on the front of the property, 1 is behind the property which may b...

Fransvliet is a few kilometers from Franschhoek, near La Motte. It is a new guesthouse with 5 rooms. The rooms are modern, spacious and well equiped with a fire place, a fridge and a nespresso machine. Bed is very comfortable. Very nice big bathroom with seperate shower. It all looks topclass (we usually stay in 5* hotels but Fransvliet is a lot nicer). Breakfast is also very good, very fresh local ingredients. You don't need lunch after this breakfast. Friendly staff and owner. Nice view over the mountains.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Fransvliet Guest House is a tranquil, luxury retreat, only 4 kilometres from the heart of Franschhoek. It is situated on a working farm, growing grapes, olives and figs. Wake up to the call of the birds and in the evening perhaps hear the resident owls calling as they contemplate the night's hunt. Breathtaking mountain views are all around, each one more spectacular than the last. The individually decorated suites are pure luxury, with absolute attention to detail. Soft wineland colours set the tone for a perfect stay. Breakfast is an occasion, every day. Spend time in the newly renovated 65 year old house, either inside or on the veranda, enjoying the view of the pool and the vineyards. Celebrate "the best meal of the day" with either a Continental or a full breakfast that will include seasonal specials. The sparkling pool is at your disposal for those hot lazy afternoons. Relax in the shade with a magazine and an ice cold drink, before you cool off. Lazy winter days are a treat too. Snuggle up in your suite in a comfy armchair with your own personal fireplace - the perfect way to enjoy one of the local bottles of red wine. Meander through the garden, (both indigenous and other) on your way to your suite. Something special will be flowering at all times. In season, luscious figs will be found on the trees, and the scent of lemons may be in the air too. Take an early morning walk around the farm in December. The vines will be green and laden with fruit. In July, a few burgundy coloured leaves and bare sticks have their own attraction. Soak up the 360° view, especially the powerful Simonsberg mountains. ... more   less
