I only had time to have a quick walk around the monument gardens and had initially thought it was a war memorial. The internet soon set me straight on that matter with the history behind it making it a very interesting visit. I'm sure the museum would have been of equal interest had I had time.

The gardens seemed to be in a process of restoration, though no mention was made of this when we paid our entrance fee.

This museum and monument is located at the top end of Huguenot Street and costs $10pp for the museum which is split into two buildings one on either side of the road. The first museum covers the reasons for the movements of the Hugueonts to the Cape province and the other museum covers the early people of the region and life for the Huguenots when they arrived. Very informative.

This Monument which is rather like a gigantic Statue dominates the entrance to the town and is by the Memorial Museum and is a must photo opportunity.

Parking is easy opposite although in the main season it can be full of tourist coaches.

To reach this you have to cross over the road and you should make the effort.

The town is a treat and pleasant to stroll in. The monument was huge and commemorates the Huguenots who escaped persecution in France in the 17 century and their arrival in establishing a failing wine industry. They did something right! South African wines stand the test.
