“Stunning gardens”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

The gardens are charming and so colourful - really disappointed we were just too late to see all the agapanthus in flower. Perhaps early to mid Feb would have been better.

“Tranquil”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

I have always admired this memorial.

The location could not be bettered, facing across the T junction at the end of the main street, against a backdrop of trees and mountains.

The monument is perfect in scale & execution, in the foreground is a large reflective pond, all set within a charming simple garden.

If you can, take a little time there for yourself

Pause for a while, reflect on the Huguenots who arrived circa 1690 to early 1700's, driven from Europe by religious persecution, there were only some 300 of them but they largely created the Franschhoek valley of today and contributed greatly to the future South Africa.

A serene and peaceful place!!

“A very interesting surprise!”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

I had been to Franschhoek before but had never visited the monument and museum. Lovely, well-kept grounds and a fascinating museum telling the tale of the early settlers in the Franschhoek Valley. There's also an interesting annexe just over the road that is equally worth visiting.

I understand that there USED to be a cafe on the site. Pity it is no longer there

“Beautiful Monument”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

This memorial monument is very beautiful. I have visited this place couple of time. Has great view of mountains. The garden at this place is well maintained. While in Franschhoek, one can come here to sit and relax when need in calm place.
