Owner description: Discover the Vineyards of Franschhoek. The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley - picturesque vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300-year history. Tour Experience: Passengers aboard the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely introduction to the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping at some of South Africa's oldest and most distinguished wine estates. A combination of tram and tram-bus follows a loop of stops allowing guests to hop off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, such as wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards. When ready guests simply hop on to continue the tour. The tour takes guests into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with a guided commentary and unparalleled views of the valley and vineyards. Ticket prices: R170 - R220

A great way to visit vineyards and to experience wine tasting. Visited 5 vineyards all with outstanding scenery and the wine wasn't bad either!

We had read about this attraction before arriving in Franschhoek and made a booking after a few days of settling into the area. Was is a worthwhile experience?.........you "betcha"!!! We went on the first tour on a Sunday and as such missed out on the visit to the Museum and the first vineyard but despite this it was an amazingly good tour. We visited four excellent vineyards - two offered free tastings and the other two charged (but the charge was so minimal it hardly mattered). The wines we tried were very good and in some cases the vineyards' reserve wines. At each location it was possible to have a cheese platter - again at little cost and for most it was also possible to get a meal at the vineyard's restaurant (although some do not open until 1200 hours). Transit was via a little shuttle bus and a little shuttle train as well as via a truck (Rickety Bridge) or even a tractor (Grande Provence) - all a lot of fun and each of the hop on/hop off stages worked like clockwork. A really great way to sample some very fine wines from the region.

Stunning scenery. Meet lots of people. Taste incredible wine. Eat amazing food (Rickety Bridge is DEFINITELY the place to stop for lunch). And you get to do all of this over a leisurely day with a lovely bus and old tram, so no need to drive. What more could you really want??

* - You don't have a car to move around
* - You want to get drunk and don't want to drive
* - You are very very very poor with direction

The whole city can be covered by a car (along with its vineyards ) in an hour (only if you don't stop for wine tasting), so you can imagine the need of a hop-on and hop-off service (that's what the service is)

HOwever, the service is good and the trams and buses are right on time. If you don't know where to start, then this service is a good one to take and you then get an idea of what to do

But if i have someone who is not drinking, then i would rather pick a couple of vineyards and go there on my own. have a much better and a much personalised service , if you go on your own.
