A very good collection of artefacts from the time when life was hard but very fulfilling. The history of Franschoek is well explained.

This museum is small but very comprehensive. The statistics are surprising: just over 200 Huguenots brought French viticulture to this corner of Africa. A large amount of detailed information is on French language panels originating from Paris, but there is a good multilingual DVD presentation ( ask the receptionist if it isn't already running). It seems that the small community was quickly assimilated into the then Dutch colony.

Its not particularly interesting - but the big problem was the staff - disapproving, grumpy and miserable - and the number of signs "don't touch", "no photos", etc. I went there wanting to learn more about the Huguenots and left actively hating them.

This is worth visiting however I found the material was difficult to follow. This was probably because they were trying to cater for many languages. However, from what I could understand, it was very informative and I was amazed at the legacy that just under 300 people from France have left. Amazing story.

A well organised informative museum with well informed staff. Apart from the Huguenot content the history of the Cape of Good Hope is well covered. Outside the gardens were in full bloom which is a reminder of the floral kingdom that the museum is in.
