“Worth an hour of your time”

I have been to Franschhoek several times, but have always just driven past the entrance. It is well worth a visit to understand the history of the valley and the hardship and plight of the Huguenots.
It does put the perspective of some of the larger wine farms and families into context.
Don't forget to also visit the smaller museum over the road

“Must see”

A small but interesting telling of the development and history of the Franshhoek valley and the pilgrim families that came and settled. It would be a shame to not absorb this story if you visit the town and have an appreciation of the early challenging origins and derive a significant appreciation this glorious place..

“homemade museum”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2014

Don´t expect too much - it is a tiny little museum, which tries to give a view to the Huguenots history in Franschhoek. It is not that impressive and unfortunately a lot of the informations are in French.

We found it very irritating that you can find more notes like "don´t touch", "don´t sit" then informations about history.

A visit on a rainy day does no harm...

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2014

We only had an hour to spend in this small museum but left wishing we had planned for more time to enjoy it. As other reviewers have mentioned it is somewhat dated. It is not like modern museums where text is minimal and objects are carefully spaced to maximize visual impact, but it still manages to be informative and worth the visit if you are willing to read a bit. It was a nice introduction to the area and I left with a greater understanding of the history of the Huguenots in South Africa. Definitely start with the video presentation. It provides an overview that puts the rest of the museum’s pieces in context.
