A short stay and we regret not staying longer in this beautiful town and this beautiful property. Just outside town with beautiful views, friendly staff and a very good breakfast it was just perfect

An excellent at a beautiful property, well manicured gardens, friendly and professional staff. The place has a lovely pool area, the one pool being heated to a nice temperature.

One of the highlights was the restaurant at the property where we had dinner twice on our 3 night stay.

A complimentary shuttle service into town was a nice touch.

We will be back.... one day, most definitely!

My wife and I have traveled to a number of countries together and I have been in another twenty five or more on business. We had a wonderful experience staying at the villas, with three other couples from Durham, SC. Management and staff were extremely pleasant and always on the look out to be helpful without appearing intrusive. The food was excellent, as was the wine(particularly that excellent Pinotage).

We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we would highly recommend this property to anyone with a modicum of taste!

In a word, Shameful. This hotel is listed as 5 star but this is just wishful thinking on the behalf of the hotel. It should be recommended that the management visit a true 5 Star hotel to see why they are disappointing so many guests. We had experienced The One & Only and Cape Grace in Cape Town which are 5 Star. If you are thinking of staying here, don't, and if you have booked, change immediately.
There are sadly only 2 positives to this hotel, the first being the temperature of the pools being lovely and warm, and the politeness of the general staff. Sadly that's it.
The negatives are;
1. Security is low with the main gates being left wide open at night, low walls which a toddler could negotiate and gaps in the electrified fence. Our room door onto the car park looked like it had been jemmied at some point.
2. The arrogance of the management is quite unbelievable, to the point of being down right rude. If you have an issue then it appears not to be their problem, and don't expect it to be resolved either.
3. Breakfast is not 5 star and you can expect a better selection at a Premier Inn.
4. Neither of the rooms phones worked and therefore if an incident occurred you can not contact anyone.
5. The TV has the basic range of channels - again not 5 star.
6. The car park is full of deep gravel which makes wheeling your suitcase neigh impossible. Perhaps an anal comment but this hotel makes you furious and to find fault in everything.
7. The location of the hotel is a good 30min walk from the town centre.
8. The restaurant food is good but don't expect an atmosphere either at the table or at the bar.
9. Our room was apparently an upgrade with an upstairs lounge but it was right on the perimeter of the hotel grounds and felt insecure. The room was in desperate need of redecoration with paint peeling from the walls and window sills.
10. The bathroom was dated a looked like it had been installed in the 80's. Lots of pastels and golds. The shower was pathetic and there was only ever enough hot water to half fill a bath before it ran out.
Please take heed and don't waste your money. We even viewed a room in the main house but it was the same as the garden room but small enough to render the proverbial cat, instantly unconsious.

As owners and management we all feedback, especially when it is constructive so we can ensure that we improve. We are however totally surprised and respectfully disagree with this review as these guests also completed a comment card on departure and we feel it is therefore imperative that we respond to the detailed comments.

* We have patrolled security at night and the gates only close after all our restaurant guests have left, there is no need for it to close prior to this. In addition there is a security perimeter around the property with electric fencing. Security is more than sufficient and significantly superior to what is required in the small peaceful town of Franschhoek. As a result of the measures we take we simply dont have security incidents or concerns.
* Guests marked the service and food at breakfast as excellent on their comment card on departure
* Guests marked the service and food at dinner as excellent on their comment card on departure, we regret if they did not enjoy the ambience
* The tv is a newly installed (3 months ago) flat screen LED tv and has a total of 39 channels
* The town is 1km from the property as stated on our website, a short 10 minute walk and in addition we offer a free shuttle service available as required
* The car park does have gravel which enhances the country atmosphere. Admittedly it can make luggage moving more difficult and porters are available for guests convenience
* The telephone did pick up a unexpected problem during guests stay (it was still working with the previous guests), we apologize for this and it was repaired immediately when reported on departure.
* The room and bathroom was renovated in 3 months ago and was inspected upon receipt of this review with no peeling paint found.

The reviewers stay for one night and the comparison with the other hotel in Cape Town in terms of expectation and value needs to be put in perspective: We are a country boutique hotel and the rate for the room booked was R2890 whereas the hotel compared with (for an entry level room) is R5342 plus which is nearly double. In addition we provide full virtual tours of all our room types (of each area of each room) so guests can book and receive exactly what they booked. The reviewer booked through an agency so we are unable to verify what was discussed when their booking was made.

We regret the accommodation did not live up to the reviewers expectations, apologize for any possible inconvenience caused but as mentioned respectfully disagree with the overall review as it is not representative. Where we have faulted we are, as in the past, more than willing to admit and to remedy and compensate where needed.

All our guests and their feedback is important to us, we sincerely regret that these guests did not experience that which our guests normally do.

Franschhoek villa was an outstanding site. The accomodations were beautiful, the staff was most kind and helpful and the food delightful. Could not have been any better. If we were ever able to visit South Africa again, would definitely stay there. Highly recommend to anyone.

Franschhoek was an excellent experience for us. they even went out of their way to set up and picnic for us on bicycles at a local winery.
We also went to their sister property Shumbalala in Hoedspruit where we were also treated extremely well.

Looking back on our three weeks in SA, we wish we'd stayed longer than two nights at Franschoek Country Villa. Everything was perfect, including Manager Ben's practical and sympathetic help when I sprained my ankle. He not only bandaged it expertly but had a crutch readily available. Our villa accommodation was delightful. The setting and location is perfect, both for comfort and for easy visits to the surrounding wineries. The in house restaurant, which offers a tasting menu with recommended wines, had great food with great service in great surroundings. And as for the breakfasts ...

Room Tip: The self contained villas offer comfort and privacy with downstairs bedroom and large bath/shower ro...
